Just for test purposes for data use count can I use a Gen 4 M2 SSD in a Gen 2 Slot ?

I have just bought a used Gen4 M2 drive, sold as new but unused, I was going to run it through crystal to check power on counts, data written etc.

Is that possible to do, my test board is a Gigabyte h310 with a gen 2 slot, I know it is no good for testing the speed.

Just need to check if it is indeed unused and new.

Yes, it's just like USB and SATA - as long as the connectors are the same it'll work at the speed of whichever is the slower.
