Hey,

Well just cleaning my car today i found i have rust! It's on the rear passenger side door at the bottom of it. Well when i bought the car i got told it had a very small amount of rust before at that place but was properly sorted out. I looked at it, they seemed to have done a good job, but i must have been wrong. :( Any ideas what i should do?

Have a look in your service book, bodywork may be guaranteed for x amount of years? Shouldn't be rusting already i wouldn't have thought!

I have a feeling it is a 10 year, but i seem to recall it is easier getting blood from a stone then to get Ford to fix the rust.

It's an 'anti perforation' warranty.

It only covers rust thats come through from behind and made a hole..

..but doesn't cover rust you've left long enough to have made a hole.

Nice one Ford.

Ford are a right pain to fix rust if you haven't had the paint/bodywork check when you have the car serviced, even more annoying is that you usually have to specifically ask for it to be done otherwise they won't do it.

Is that on the inside of the door?

I'd treat it with Kurust, sand it down, treat it again and then paint it with Hammerite rust treatement. Sand it down again and primer it. Then paint.

Or, you could take it to a bodyshop, but they'll charge a fortune. If it's on the inside and you can get a paint to match, I wouldn't worry about it.

That's quite bad how a 1999 Focus is rusting though.

looks like the entire bottom of that door is rusted.

one thing to do with rust,

step 1, buy waxol or other antirust stuff (basicly liqued wax which dries.

Step 2, get screwdriver and bang rust really quite hard to work out whats good metal and whats bad.

Step 3, apply waxol.

Step 4, sit back and go **** I have a rust problem.

Step 5 get a cup off tea and decide how 2 treat it.

I have had the same problem on my Focus... bottom of both the doors
I just put it down to being a Ford lol
You are very unlikely to get it fixed under the 10 year warrentry they are very very picky and as stated already its only supposed to be covered if the rust has come from under the paint out over.
Far better to find a good bodyshop who will sort it properly for you id say

They will either remove all of the rust they can, treat it with chemicals then bodyfiller and repaint it (option I went for and seems to be holding up fine)... or if its beyond that its a new door im afraid :(

Do you dry under your doors everytime you wash the car and wax in there as well to protect from the weather?

I know some people that have even used waxoyl inside there doors to try and stop this problem

Bottom of doors, under the wing mirrors and the groove under the rear window seem to be the worst places on the Focus for rust

Hit the nail on the head, you have more chance getting sex with keely than getting your rust fixed by ford. Best bet is to visit your local dealership, speak to them about the rust see what they say let them send off there pictures and if they come back saying they will fix it YAY if they say they cant start to hit ford customer services HARD !

:) Thats how all the Zetec S boys do it

Well I will try the garage I bought from first (None Ford place). If not then I think I will try Ford, if not then I will probably do it myself. Just started study leave, what else is it for? :p

My mondeo's driver door is similar to that, the small drainage holes were blocked!

I think it's repairable but need to treat the inside of the door too I guess?

head to a scrappy, cant imagine a new door being too hard to find in the colour you want :]
