As much as ive said I wouldn't go nvidia for a while I just bought a 5070 out of the blue. Now I need some advice because they dont have an adrenaline app and last time I used MSI afterburner it was completely different.

What should I be doing now that it's installed and ive ran some benchmarks. In my haste I forgot to run some benchmarks of my 6700xt first for reference.

How do I set DLSS or whatever? Are these options all inside the actual games? How do I change from DLSS 4 down to 3 or 2? The nviia app is knowhere near as intuitive as adrenaline.
 
DLSS options are in games that support it. You dont need to mess around with settings in the Nvidia app much to be honest. What are you actually trying to do?

Just and overclock or undervolt really. That nvidia app can't even be set to not start with windows, have to mess with task manager start up options...

you've gone from a 6700xt to something faster than a 6950xt. it's nearly a +50% jump in performance (assuming you have a cpu fast enough to keep up)

Is overclocking or undervolting even worth it these days, u dont get much benefit and easier to just plug and play, i mean u got ur new faster speeds and temps should be fine, power draw probs not a thing to be worried about really. Just seems not much point to me these days compared to old days when u could get quite a bit out of it and u needed it back then but not so much now. Up to you of course just imo thats all. Oh and congrats on the new card, i wonder if you have issues with the 12gig vram compared to say the 9070xt 16gig.

Play some games!

What resolution are you playing at? Most games won't need you to be using upscaling for a decent framerate, unless your monitor is 4K.

The vram was something I was slightly concerned about.

I know everybody will slam me for this but it was the crypto app im using that made me jump. A new algorithm came out that suggested I could get a lot more than I was with my 6700xt. I was getting 20p per day. The 5070 gets nearly 2 quid per day at a bit less than 2x power usage. Costs less than half in power.

Back story is I cant turn my pc off because im having some issues with the cmos battery (I think) and it doesn't always turn on, sometimes takes a day or 2 of being plugged to be able to turn on again. The CMOS battery is in the most awkward of places and wrapped up and stuck down under the motherboard fan. So I decided to use a crypto miner while the pc was left on.
 
I think CMOS batteries are a bit cheaper than 5070's...

A dead CMOS battery can cause problems but it shouldnt stop you turning the PC on so you might have another issue there...
 
Its not affecting anything though apart from if the pc is unplug over a day or so it wont turn back on for a days or so either. I've got a new one to put in buts it's too much of a fuss and ive wanted a gpu for a while and all my excuses are I valid if I do it...

What? You wanted a new GPU so purchased one I'm not sure what that has got to do with the system not responding when you try to turn it on.

Its more likely to be a PSU or motherboard issue if it won't turn on but changing a cmos battery shouldn't be that hard unless you've got a water loop in the way or something.

I've got a water loop and it's an itx board. The cmos battery is under a motherboard fan and stuck to something under neath it near the rear I/O and it is a proper pain to do anything thing with. I've got a b550 itx asus motherboard.

Is it a water loop or is it an AiO?

Did someone else build the system for you? If there's a problem related to the CMOS battery you're not really doing yourself any favours by simply not turning your PC off, and that's even assuming that is what the problem relates to. You could have capacitor problems somewhere that would result in a similar and unrelated problem, don't kick the can down the road. You could end up with a far more costly issue long term, that being needing a new motherboard and full rebuild.

Spontaneously spending half a grand on a 5070 for crypto mining while being afraid of turning your PC off due to known problems is not a healthy direction.

It's not like crypto mining on a single machine for someone worried about downtime is even a healthy investment, I really do not get that mindset. You're not going to magically strike it rich by spending electricity for a possible £2 an hour on a coin that might tank in value at any moment on a broken machine.

It is a custom loop. Im having 0 problems what so ever apart what I've said, ive got the part ready to replace it but I just cba. The connection isn't really accessible, needs tweezers and stuff to access it. Its been over a year now. I want to do my full pc upgrade but it's just so expensive now.

Im mining and the coin gets converted to bitcoin instantly. Its not costing me anything atleast. Its not like it's sitting in a coin that's going knowhere.

You tried bios update, and chipset update etc, as might not be the cmos battery. Also you sure the booting issue isnt the memory training just doing its thing tho shouldnt take too long.

It was doing absolutely nothing when I would hit the power button. No noise, no fans, nothing. Then a day later id try it or later that night and it would work.

There's a small chance the case switch is bad but I think the main concern would be that the power supply might be living on borrowed time and if it goes pop it might not do your new shiny GPU any good.

There was a period where some bad capacitors were known to fail prematurely but I think that pre-dates your AM4 motherboard by quiet a bit. How old is your psu if you list the model I'm sure someone will pop along and critique it.


Check / reseat psu cables connecting the mobo
Bypass the case switch using the screw driver method or buy a new case switch for a couple of pounds
Try a different PSU
Replace the mobo


To be fair it does look like you mobo uses a weird wired cmos batery and they have stuck it under the io plate but isnt it just a couple of small screws to remove that?

Asus suggest a few other things like reseating ram and checking the cpu but I dont think that tallys with it turning on after its been plugged in for a few days:

Yeah could be a dodgy cabled power button. If it has a reset button you can try swapping the cables of them around i think there similar pins.

How old is the power supply, in case I've missed it in the thread?
I'd say more likely the power supply. One of mine started failing last October, which I only recently replaced, so it never failed completely thankfully. Would just randomly not turn on at all(less common), or would suddenly boot a while later(more common). And I'm talking sometimes 15+minutes later it'd suddenly boot up. When it was up and running it still ran flawlessly, including under heavy workloads.
I've had a cmos battery fail in the past and it simply resulted in the loss of the bios settings.

It wouldnt turn on randomly minutes or hours after ive pressed the button. It was like it was charging up. I had to press the button later that day/night or a day later and it worked. The psu is the corsair 600w sfx one and I think it maybe about 5 years old.
