I had been trying to use Adobe Premiere Elements 2.0 on my Shuttle HTPC in the front room and nearly went blind trying to use the thing on the 15" Samsung SM151P plugged into it (1072x768). So I decided to swap around with the Q17+ on my gaming PC for the time being. Well Premiere Elements is usable now, but one go at gaming (BF2, DoD:Source) on my old Samsung was enough to annoy me into an impulse buy.
I had seen a mates Acer AL1916w and it looked pretty decent for the asking price but didn't have DVI. Although it uses the same Panel as the Acer, I went for the Viewsonic because it did offer DVI and they have a reputation for making decent monitors.
I got it yesterday and my first impressions are good, it has a bright clear picture and the colours seem vibrant enough. Only played DoD so far and that was a joy, as it natively supports the 1440x900 (16:10) resolution of the monitor. Having the wider point of view really adds to the game and the monitor performed excellently.
My only gripe so far is that I seem to have two lazy/stuck pixels, one in the bottom right of the screen and one on the extreme middle left. It took me a while to notice them as they are only really visable when displaying very dark colours. Tonight I will try a few things to unstick them, I doubt I could RMA it as I think Viewsonics Policy is Zero Dead Pixels, where one whole pixel is dead (Black or white). I think I might be dealing with two sub-pixel problems, as they show up as green or blue, can't remember now. Most of the time I can't notice them anyway, so its not the end of the world.
Great monitor though and I would recommend it for those who, like me, don't want to spend a huge amount of money on a widescreen model that they will struggle to run natively (in games) with the graphics card they have.
