Hello,

I've just received a Xonar DS (and a Merry Christmas to you lot too!), and have plugged it in and hooked up the HD audio front panel connector to it. Everything has installed without a problem.

However, when I plug in the headphones to the front panel, it will switch to them, but won't switch back to speakers when I unplug them again.

The 'ASUS Xonar DS Audio Center' changes the connection from 5.1 stereo to Front Panel headphones. Fine, but it won't turn it back. Similarly, Windows doesn't recognise my headphones at all.

Has anyone had any such issues with this and can recommend some steps to resolve this? I'm loving the quality of the card so far, but needing to alt+tab out of what I'm doing to fiddle with sound settings is going to cost me valuable fragging time!

Thanks

I don't think there is any way to do that without buying a special switching gadget (google it). But that would probably degrade the sound quality a little, as would using the front audio panel as you are now.

Windows 7 shows my headset as speakers in the playback devices tab and occasionaly they dissapear completely from the playback devices tab when switching between audio devices which then involves disable/enable in device manager it was a much more long winded process before with creative software that i have now removed .but with the xonar sound quality is bound to be affected if you remove the audio centre software

That's what I figured. I tried to run the card without the software, but it's bundled with the driver too :( Thanks for the thoughts though, and maybe ASUS will get around to patching it one day.

EDIT: I've dropped Asus an email after seeing this problem crop up on their own forums. If/when they get back to me, I'll post their suggestion here for anyone interested. In the meantime, it's alt+tabbing out of games to sort it out :(
