Just got AVP but never ever used steam

Once you've had to start up, login, update, restart, login, update and so on, multiple times with Games for Windows Live you really do begin to appreciate how good Steam is...

It really does take the biscuit when i first decided to play RF Guerilla only to have GFWL make me reopen the game 3 times following an update, wasting 30 minutes of my time on updates that Steam would do itself in the background without wasting my time asking me.

Ok well it's up and running again now something about the itegrity of the file so i deleted local files and re-installed from the disc. it's seems to be ok now tho and launching first time running dx11 (which i must say is awesome shadows and tessalation look amazing on the aliens)

If i want to back-up steam to my back-up drive which folder do i have to copy as like i said i'm getting a 1TB HDD and hopefully a SSD next week

EDIT i can't even find the AVP installation on the HDD it's like an invisable 15 GB has gone awol lol there not even a program files folder for it

double edit Never mind i found it. it's weird using steam as a first time user the interface does seem pretty solid tho and i'm already hovering the mouse over some games must fight temptation to buy lol

it will be inside the steam folder in prog file :)

If you want to back steam (and all games) up go to to program file (or program flis x86 if you have a 64 bit os) then select the steam folder and copy it to new drive.

run steam and all your games will be installed and ready to play \o/

Please note though non valve games may put their save folders in the my documents/my games folder so check there.

In game pres shift+tab and you can talk to people, browse the web, watch youtube/play or flash games for while you're waiting to respawn :p

Non-steam games its best to make damn sure you have the savefiles before backing up, they can be all over the place...

Yes with Steam comes to temptation to spend money. Especially when you notice the 'Packs'... i think the THQ pack is on offer atm, 50% off, £26.49 for £175 worth of games.

how can you be disappointed somethings on steam? It uses next to no ram or CPU power, its a simple login that you would probably have to do in the game anyway, except its one nice easy login for everything in there, it lets you backup, theres never any real faffing with problems with it etc.

Some people whinge for the sake of it, its arguably one of the best pieces of gaming software released in the past decade. Why wouldnt you want a hub for all your games with its own built in community features, friends list, one simple login, unlimited downloads of your games etc?

Amen to that, especially when compared to the annoyance that is GFWL!

i quite like steam for multiplayer....especially left for dead 2.
just look at your friends list on steam and it tells you what they are playing, fancy playing a game with them ?
joining in couldn't really be much easier.

Just make sure you validate your email and read up on phishing scams, so you don't end up posting a Steam hacked thread.

Out of interest, has anyone made multiple accounts for spreading games that have a short shelf life? As I resent being excluded from second hand market once I've tired of a game.

No because it's against the rules. If you want to sell stuff on then get the non-steam version, much easier.

But from this threads first post it seems retail version has to be assigned to Steam in order to play. And I imagine it's the start of things to come.
