Just got back from a job 'interview'.

Lets be honest, the company has no idea where I applied from because the job is advertised in several places.
68 people applied for the job and they need a way to whittle it down to 15 applicants very quickly.

Why don't I want the job? :
I've done that exact job for 33 years and want a change and I think I deserve the right.
However, if by some miracle I do get offered the job I will take it because it'll be like water off a ducks back.

You do deserve the right, so why arent you? why are you being forced to applpy for a job you dont want?

When was the last time you went down the Jobcentre?
They treat you like a criminal even though there are people standing outside with a can of Carling who have no intentions of ever working.
I told them I want to work with Juvenile Offenders and Jobcentre Man said "Don't you think you're looking out of your capabilities?"
My ex big boss signed on for the first time last week at the same time as me and he had tears in his eyes.
He said the woman who spoke to him treated him like **** as though he hadn't had a job for the last 38 years.
I told him he'd get used to it and calmly tell them what you have done since you were 16 and how you ended up there.

If you ask me they're the lazy ones, sat behind a desk all day telling people they're not doing XYZ properly. Its their responsibility to get clients assistance and help them into employment. Why bother having a welfare system if it doesn't work?

Combi-quote!

very low wage??? id kill to be on that as a low wage lol
33% more than I got at my last job so I'd say thats quite reasonable for a single person just renting a room.
£7hr thats only 13.5k a year (11k after taxes). Not really anywhere near a good wage. But good for paying the bills.

I've been doing freelance web dev and the jobs I've been looking at are 18k+ even for a juniour role. It's just this £7/hr job feels almost 'on the table' and I should actually get this one, it's something extra and relevant on the CV too.

The problem is getting in to the interview room without qualifications or commercial experience (freelancing a few B&B's and one reasonable-sized project doesn't seem to impress too much).

£11k after taxes...

:( Not good... I'm so glad my parent's don't want to take rent money from me!

At the moment they will be looking through the applications and hopefull I'll get a phone call.

You probaby already know this, but give it a couple of days after the closing date and phone them up. Politely enquire how the decision making process is going and reiterate how interested you are in the position.

Never thanks, not had the need to.

My point was why arent you doing what you want to do, instead of being forced into something else? Ahh, because you are not doing what you want, instead you are claiming.

Never thanks, not had the need to.

Fine, not all of us are that fortunate - give the guy a break, he was made redundant and wants to try another field. So what if he takes it grudgingly? Does he not deserve something back after 33 years of paying tax\NI?

Doesnt matter if you want the job or not if you are capable of doing the job the job center expect you to go for it.

Last time i was in there 3 or 4 years ago you had to sign a contract with them outlining what you would do to look for work and that you would work for the minimum wage and travel 90 mins to and from work by public transport.

Exactly. If you tried narrowing it down too much you'd lose your claim.

I thought you had a job lined up through a mate?

Anytime I want it however I would have to be self employed and I don't want to take jobs off people when theres a slight chance I might let them down if the Offenders job happens.
If I don't get an interview then that will send a big message to me and I will have to put all my efforts elsewhere.
If I get through the next interview for the Engineering job then I will give 100% to get it but hopefully I'll never take it if my dream job comes along.

Just had a phone call asking me to go to an interview next wednesday with the Plant Manager :)

And Morba:
If you think £54 can get me through the week then you're mistaken.
My time on the dole is costing me £1000 a month which is being taken out of my redundancy payout.
I'm also on a College course run by the NHS just to get me out of Engineering.

I dont think many people could live with £54 a week, I know I couldn't for sure.
