this is the most laggy, unstable game ive ever played. i patched it to 1.12 as reccomended and entered expecting some hardcore online play. i tried to connect to 2 servers, both failed then i got into an official EA one and i had so much stutter it was unplayable. then i got in as co-pilot in the chopper and saw about 2 frames over the space of 3-4minutes before my game crashed. just like to clarify that i highly doubt this is because of the spec of my pc.. i have a 7800GTX 256MB, 1GB OCZ PC3200 @ 400Mhz and a 3500+ Venice @ stock. run games like FEAR with AA forced at 8x and such. so i dont think that is the problem.. but if there is a problem id be inclined to learn about it as this has annoyed me.

Welcome to the world of BF2..

The stutter is normal if you have 1GB of RAM. It usually stutters for the first minute of each round then it stops and the game runs fine after that.

Expect the game to crash a lot when you are in the menu's. Going into the menu's mid game to change a setting is a BAD idea! Make sure you do all of that at the beginning.

For me setting dynamic light or textures to high also causes stuttering.

Its your ram, its pretty horrendous without 2gb.

It wouldn't be the ram causing that much lag. I have 1gb of kingston 3200 ram and i could play everything on max & 4x AA

AMD Athlon XP 3200
Asus X800XT-PE
1gb PC3200

Your perception of nice smooth gameplay isn't mine.

I have an Identical rig in every respect bar RAM to my mate's PC, right down to the same mobo & make of GFX card & RAM.

He can play @ 1600x1200 with everything on high, with AA & AF with no issues, I can play on medium settings no higher than 1024x768 with AA & AF

I've tried 2GB in my machine and guess what? it runs a treat at the same settings as my mate.

1GB is not enough RAM for BF2 at Max settings, Period.

Maybe if you read the OP you would see that he's got 1Gb of ram and he was getting 2 frames per 4 minutes  I dont think thats down to ram...

I was'nt refering to naffas OP, I was refering to your post, which is why I quoted you first! ;)

Hey guys,

I too am new to the joys of BF2, but I am also having problems... :(

I'm patched right up, all my settings are on medium (Because of the GFX) and I'm on a 1 MB connection?

Single player is fine, however online is laggy and often crashes to desktop without any warning or error message

I'm very tempted to get 2GB of RAM right now if I 'm sure it will short out this problem? Otherwise I probably will put it off for a while?

Any suggestions?

Cheers,

SW.

hmmm i think i bought more than i bargained for when i invested in bf2. you all seem to regard random crashes as normal :p lol. im sure if eveyone here can enjoy it then it should be ok. i think i will be upgrading to 2GB DDR in the not too distant future.. but since when has £60 come out of thin air? :o

Sounds like your connection isn't up to it. BF is very bandwidth hungry particularly in 64 player maps. Try doing a broadband test at ADSL guide.

I have lower specs than you but it sounds like get better results however I only run at 1280*1024 and it is great.

I also bought bf2 recently and have so many problems with it, its untrue. Sound crackles and distorts, shadows under players, vehicles that are jagged and blocky. Objects, vegetation that decides to change shape the closer/further away i get. Ground textures that like to jump up and down as if they have a heart beat. I also have the laggy, 2 fps in multiplayer games also, stuttering, laggy slideshow spectacular. A steal at 20 quid. * shoots self *
