Hi, I just got caught speeding doing 36 in a 30mph zone. Recently where I live there is a dual carriage way where its normally a 70mph limit however there is now roadworks there and the limit has changed to 30mph. Reason I was speeding was there was a car behind me tailgating, so I went a bit quicker to overtake the cars on the lefthand lane - stupid reason big mistake.

I'm 22, passed my driving test for 4 years, I also have a previous conviction for speeding in my first year by a mobile camera aswell and have 3 points from that. How do I know of i'm eligible for the speeding course and avoid points?

By any chance is this on the Coast road?

Certainly is mate :(

Yeah, i think i may have been caught this morning on the way to college. Some idiot was right up my arse in a Warrior so i sped up a bit to about 35-40 mph and i didnt notice the van parked by the side. Supposedly they have caught thousands of people there. And the worse thing is i have only been driving for 1 month ish..

It will say on the letter. No say, no course.

does it say on the NIP or does the letter come after you have identified the driver ?

anyway , normally 35 would be the limit for a course and I don't think you get one if you already have points for speeding

The only thing that suggests that I may be offered the course which looks more and more unlikely is in the attached FAQ on Q9 it says 'Can I have a higher fine and no penalty points?' and it says there some maybe offered the course after sending the NIP form.

Yeah same situation mate.

I've noticed it's calmed down a bit on the Coast road there though....I got overtaken by someone doing at least double my speed not long after they started those roadworks...

...do you know if it was a camera, or a car, or what?

Its a Camera van that sits behind some concrete barriers on the side of the road.

Hmmmm.....I only tend to use it late at night, but I've never seen the van. I have to admit that I've been more careful there recently, mainly because all the traffic seems to have calmed down.

Hey OP, how long between the offence and you receiving the notification? I've managed to put the ***** up a few folk in the office by telling them your story. Never heard so many people vow to go 30mph in all my life!

Edit - oh, and were you going East or West, Vegeta? West (towards Newcastle), are the barriers that you mention, Crossy, the ones underneath the Norham Road bridge? There's a bit marked off "Police Vehicles Only".

Yes there is one under the Norham Road bridge going towards Newcastle and there is one sitting on the Coast side of the road between the Churchill slip road and the Silverlink sliproad. On these signs it says Police speed Check Vehicles only.

Did the offence on the 18th and I recieved my letter on the 28th, I was going westbound towards newcastle the van was just under the bridge in the concrete barriers. I dont think I will be offered the course i'm gutted because if they wanted to they could (they can offer people the course who go upto 39mph) but because the demand is soo high some places choose to offer it to those who have gone 35mph and under and im 36mph!!
