As for must-have apps, the first would be Flipboard. If you are a budding artist/designer, Sketchbook Pro is the best. If you're more about casual doodling, Paper might be the slicker option. Or if you just want to scribble, Wacom's Bamboo app is free.
If you have a bunch of digital comics you want to read, ComicGlass is good. You might want to use Dropbox to transfer them across, although I think it has its own transfer system too. Dropbox is handy anyway.
IMO is the best free multi-messenger client.
