Just got a laptop with windows 7. Now i want to know all the features it has.
What top 5 things do you find cool/helpful about W7?

Taskbar fo sho, the cleanlyness and that it uses much less RAM when sitting idle from booting. The layout of windows explorer.

i must agree with you on the taskbar. Makes everything so simple. unlike on vista and xp when you have a lot of things running it looks ugly and gets abit complicated.

I also noticed less HD space is needed,

Recent file history of each app in the start menu, makes returning to files/movies so so easy and quick compared to opening the app then file > open recent > filename.wtf or browsing to it in explorer then clicking it.

That and jump lists.

I think the only thing i find annoying about the taskbar is say you have facebook open, and you recieve a chat message, you wont know you have a message until you open up the browser window if you got the sound down, usually in vista taskbar you would have a flashing status -"New message"

I love the faster boot and shutdown times - a massive improvement over anything that has gone before.

Isn't that mostly down to the O/S newness?, woudl be interesting to see results after everything is loaded up fully, don't get me wrong I like W7 but any fresh O/S install always seems faster initially in my experience

I have had it going for a fair while and it still starts up and shuts down quickly.

Vista and Windows 7 employ Superfetch, 7 improves on it too. When I installed Win7 fresh it took longer to boot than Vista did so it has nowt to do with newness.

After a few weeks of configuring and rebooting here and there it trains itself and boots faster and now it boots much faster and desktop icons/gadgets are usable within seconds of the desktop loading.

Cool, looking forward to installing it on my main machine then :), running on laptop for a while now but that doesn't do anything too stressful

love the fact you can grab a window, even if it's maximised, and drag it from one monitor to another and maximize it by moving it to the top

Doesnt seem to work for me, drag it to the second monitor push it to the top and it maximises to the first monitor

Yeah I love this and the dragging it to the side and it just resizes and covers half the window is cool as well.

+ quick start up etc. and taskbar is good too. Searching for things can be a bit annoying though.

I like the fact that when I got loads of windows open I can grab the one I want and shake it around with my mouse and the rest minimise :D

I rarely use it as I'm a habitual keyboard shortcut user, but I still love the fact it has been put in :)

I also like everything people have mentioned, the drag feature on windows to maximise/split, the new taskbar, the new start button, etc :)

Well, I find the windows grab feature sometimes annoying when moving stuff around my screen. I do have rather a lot of screen real estate so I dont need to compare docs or maximise windows. Drivers are still a bit glitchy and have removed ccc 9.8 and back on 9.7 but that's not Windows fault, I guess. Love the new task bar and best thing of all is the background fade. I have over three hundred hi res backgrounds in a folders and they look great fading in and out every five mins.
Not quite as stable as Vista yet but is damn close. Virutal PC is a breeze although I still use VMware as it is much better and supports more OS. Homegroup is nice and easy to share media and streaming my AVi's to my laptop is great. The only thing missing from media centre is the ability to make it an extender like an Xbox and be able to control the DTV tuner in my main rig from my other machines. Love the new media centre, great from recording TV as you can easiy skip adverts because you get a little preview of where you are in the recording when dragging the progress bar. It also supports my rubbish Bluetooth dongle without extra software or have to pay to use more than 5mb of data!

The new taskbar is just godly.

This and the improved media centre.

The task bar is just so awesome. Pin files to it. Right click on the word/open office icon and can select anyfile you have pinned to it. Once you get used to it. It is just stunningly fantastic.

The improved networking tools, and the larger close/minimize/maximize buttons. New taskbar looks nicer, but I find it a PITA to use.

I like the library function of Documents, Videos, Music and the fact that you can add other folders to the library. Godsend here where my 3 kids can store their music, pictures and videos in either their personal folder or in a public folder but the library view presents a combined view of all the folders in the library.

All round its the best thing Microsoft have do since.....hmmm ever :p buying a copy for each of me PC's for sure.

Task bar best thing don't forget the wallpaper slide show that rocks tho.
