Just had an HDD Toshiba 7200RPM Die .. Which are the best HDD drives for reliabilty ?

I bought it new from Amazon around 3 years ago, it is a Toshiba P300 High performance drive.

It has not had a hard life, but it is for my office PC which has been on for the past three years due to a program that I need to have running at all times.....which is not run from the failed hard drive though !!

Anyway need to buy a replacement but which 7200RPM drives are considered as the most reliable on the market with a rock solid rep? I do know I could have perhaps gone for a raid type setup...not sure if that is beyond me.

Ideally just looking for a single drive to just slap back in the machine.....lost loads of important files...but this time I shall setup One drive to back up my important stuff to the cloud.

What size of drive do you need, what's the IO workload? 3 years isn't that great, mechanical drives need to be cool ideally and we're at a point where SSD prices have dropped to a point where they can make more sense unless you need several TB's. You could look at back blaze for a general idea of reliability, but it's not representative of how the drives will perform in your usage.

An SSD would be the way to go if possible for both speed and reliability. As far as reliable brands though, I would usually go with Western Digital myself.

Please remove that hint to a competitor though.

RAID is no substitute for having a proper backup system.

7200RPM HDD wise I've generally gone with Seagate but they've not had the record for reliability they used to have. WD haven't been without their problems so it is really kind of pot luck of late.
