Just had crash !!!

I am getting £2000 after excess, but then becasue I pay my premiums monthly and am only 4 months into policy they took the remaining 8 months from the payout. Is this correct? They have said that when I insure next car they will work out a new premium from when I get it until policy renewal (29/4/10) and deducted what they reclaimed which is fair enough. What if I decided not to buy a new car I am then paying for insurace for 12 months and only getting 4!

That's ALL wrong. Surely this has nothing to do with your policy? If your insurer has agreed to cancel your insurance based on the fact you no longer have a car, you should have NO penalty. Any admin fees should be charged to the other insurer.

You should receive the FULL agreed value of your car.

Right - time for an update. Car is to be written off (repairs cost £4500).

Insruance co phoned today we agreed the price for the car but something strange with the payout.

Whoa! Are you claiming from your own insurance or from the third party's? It sounds very much like you are claiming from your own which is bad news I'm afraid.

Why would you pay an excess when you're claiming off the other driver's insurance?

Claiming from my Insurance, who then claim from the 3rd party.

NCB intact. :D

Incorrect; until they successfully claim against the third party you have a claim against you and you have lost some or all NCB (depending on how much you started with). It's never a good idea to claim through your own insurance if it's the other parties fault IME.

This is why they have taken the rest of the policy premiums out of your claim; if you make a claim for a total loss against your policy, the policy will be terminated. This would all have been avoided by a direct claim from the third party's insurance.
