Just How Powerfull are Deltas *With a Twist*

Edit: and sorry theres NO way you panaflo 'BLADES' way 100 grams, not a chance such a little fan holds a blade made of lightweight plastic that weights a tenth as much as a bag of sugar
Read the post again, never said the blades weighed that much.
I said the whole fan is about 100g. If your including the weight of the motor that will be spinning atleast half of that weight will translate into mass behind the spinning blades in terms of momentum.
So 50g perhaps, a good deal more than the 15 you suggested

A great deal more than the weight of the blades, motor and fan casing, in fact, as we know from Durzel's example that those fans spin with enough speed that they can launch themselves off your desk if you don't screw them onto something!

Maybe if we sawed the bottom off an ATX case and fitted 6-8 Deltas in there blowing downwards we could make a hovercraft. :D

If someone doesn't post a video of the shoving a carrot/appendage through a delta I'm gonna RTM this thread as a waste of my time!

you pay for the fan, send it to me and i will do it.

Not gonna nail expensive fans. :)

There's no way a plastic fan blade will break bones but it'll certainly give you a nice deep gash!

I beg to differ!

I finally got round to making the video.

Here are the items with which I tested:

A mushroom, a sugar snap pea, a piece of broccoli, a carrot, a frankfurter and not shown, my left index finger.

Watch the video here

As you can see from the video, the delta has considerable destructive power. Here is a photo of my finger after sticking it in the fan:

Conclusion:
Sticking your finger in a delta fan at full speed is not big and it's not clever - and bloody hurts, mmmkay.

Now all I have to do is clean the food off my monitor:

I hope you lot appreciate the sacrifices I make to satisfy your curiosity :p

Stan :)

I can't believe you stuck your finger in - you madman!

You must've known that at the very least you would end up with a nasty cut, possibly worse. As others have said I don't think it would break your finger but I'm certain it could give a very deep cut (possibly down to the bone).

EDIT: Haha I laughed when it flew off the desk :D

It's not down to the bone thankfully but did bleed quite a bit.

I just couldn't resist the temptation. I did have a good idea there may be blood involved but thankfully it wasn't too severe - at least it proved a theory :D

Bigstan + whisky = reckless behaviour :o

It's not too bad - I can still roll cigarettes so no harm done

Haha nice one bigstan, thank you for proving what I said earlier that it could cut deeply :D Fear my B in GCSE science Gashman!
