Just installed a WD Scorpio Black into my laptop and wow!

I replaced my PS2 40GB 5400RPM hard disk with a 7200RPM one and that is a touch quicker as well, so worth the few quid over the 5400 ones.

Any noticeable disk noise? The thing I like about the HDD my PS3 came with is that you simply don't hear it. My notebook's 160GB WD drive, by comparison, is a horribly clicky-clacky drive, and it's only a 5,400RPM.

So the 320GB blue is the fastest single platter drive?

Sorry, I was talking about the 500GB Blue. Densest 2.5" platters are 250GB (though Seagate have a 640GB 2.5" external listed so perhaps 320GB from them soon). No guarantees on whether or not the 250GB or less drives are single platter/short stroked single platter.

OMG NO, ITS GOING TO DIE IN A FIREY DEATH OF OVER-HEATY FIREBALLS AND STUFF!!!111one1:rolleyes:

and to think i've been saying, for 3 years now, the 7200rpm drives do not cause ps3's to over heat :o

Yeah it runs fine! In fact the power usage on the label is less than the older one :)

You can only hear it (just) if you put your ear right up to the PS3. I would think it would be quiet in a laptop too. The one I bought was a Seagate (https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-221-SE) so not the same drive as the OP.

Glad to hear (or not!), thanks for that. Do want to upgrade some day soon, although I'm surprisingly doing OK with the 40GB for now, still got a few GB free, and that's with all my games installed as well as Home sucking up a few GB.
