Just installed Ubuntu 8, no sound!

My soundcard is an E-mu 1212m, and I only really need to get it working with a media player type proggie...

It doesn't appear to be detected, so does that mean I'm stuck forever with no sound?

Go to the Ubuntu forums (The official ones).

The support from the users there is incredible. Its possibly the strongest point that Ubuntu has over rival linux distributions IMO, at least for Linux n00bz like myself.

Wget is taking forever as my broadband likes to behave like 56k.

I must say I'm really impressed with Ubuntu tho, once I change over to my 7800GT I should get dual displays also as this is another thing I'm missing... :cool:

try going into to term and running alsamixer, it will let you adjust some volume controls that may be off by default

I've given up for now, I've found it's randomly freezing, and there's no way to reset without pressing the button on the computer, so it's back to XP for now.

I've asked over at the ubuntu forums and no joy so far.
