all i need is the following, im not great on pc specs so didnt want to make a mistake and get something crap or incompatible so i i ask for info on here which im also grateful for but ive asked recently and i cant seam to get any help on buying these upgrades from OCUK...

Budget is Around £800 or lower if possible!

ATX Tower
MB (that is ok with win10 and win7)
Ram
PSU
Intel Or Ryzen (whichever is best of the 2 brands for gaming)

I already have Red Dragon V2 8192MB GDDR5.

thanks

I don't think its that people aren't trying to help but windows 7 is no longer supported by microsoft and motherboard manufacturers for new boards. I went on a couple of websites and their wasn't support for windows 7, just 10. If you are happy getting a build advice for just windows 10 then I am sure people will help.

I don't think you can use Ryzen with Windows 7 without jumping through a lot of hoops. Unless you've got a really good reason for needing Windows 7, I'd stick with 10.

For gaming I'd go for:
  • 750w or 850w Super Flower or Seasonic psu (mostly for future proofing - you could drop to a good 650w but it would rule out a higher end gpu if you upgrade at some point)
  • Ryzen 5600x or 5800x depending on budget (5800x is more future proof)
  • B550 motherboard (depends on your needs - MSI and Gigabyte are safe bets)
  • 16gb 3600 c16 (could go 32gb but I wouldn't prioritise it)
  • 1tb nvme (Sabrent Rocket is good value provided you don't buy the q version)
  • 1tb ssd (Samsung or Crucial)
  • 240mm AIO cooler (plenty to choose from - I use Corsair but you can do just as well for less money).
Case is really personal preference.

ok no worries man i understand and i guess i was happy to stay with 7 for so long, and im now willing to go with windows 10 (if i can find a legit version at a good price)

what setup could i get with windows 10 based on my current info please?

An example build that you can play around with

Intel Core i5-10400 2.90GHz (Comet Lake) Socket LGA1200 Processor - Retail £158.99
MSI MAG B460M MORTAR WIFI (Socket LGA 1200) DDR4 Micro-ATX Motherboard £114.95
Team Group Vulcan Z T-Force 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-24000C16 3000MHz Dual Channel Kit - Grey £68.99
Seasonic Core Gold GC-650 650W 80+ Gold Power Supply £79.99
NZXT H510 Midi Tower Gaming Case - Black Tempered Glass £74.99
Arctic Freezer 34 eSports 120mm CPU Cooler - Black / Grey £29.99
WD Black 500GB SN750 M.2 2280 NVME PCI-E Gen3 Solid State Drive (WDS500G3X0C) £63.95
WD Blue SN550 2TB NVME M.2 2280 PCIe Gen3 Solid State Drive (WDS200T2B0C) £184.99
£776.8

You can download and install Win 10 from the MS site. Most of the features are available without an activation key, give it a try.
The 2TB nvme will give plenty of space for games, you can swap both nvme out for others, eg change the 2 TB for a 1TB if you want. Change them both for a 1TB blue. The WB black should provide reliable performance and you can download some stand alone games on it.
The cpu cooler will look nicer in the case & should be a bit quieter.

Your gpu will be the bottleneck, not that cpu. It will take an upgrade to a better gpu in the future such as a nvidia 3070, AMD 6700xt, perhaps when they are available at good 2nd hand prices, although that might not be for awhile.

If you wait until the 30th March you can see how the intel 11th gen review, although sometimes prices of new hardware is high for awhile and then comes down

You can install and activate Windows 10 with a Windows 7 key if that helps you? At least, you still could a few weeks ago and I have no reason to think that's changed.

Alternatively, you can install Windows 10 with no key and you'll have some grace time before being asked to activate it. You can still run it without activation, but some settings will be unavailable (such as changing your desktop wallpaper)

i do like the sound of the intel as i would be upgrading from my intel which as served me so well with only prob over years was sound part on board going which i just bought a separate sound card. 16gb memory sounds fine! think i would need 32gb as i do some video editing as well as gaming but the editing part can take so long.

thanks again

and i will keep the info on the ryzen setup for when i need to upgrade my partners pc

Unlocked (or suffixed with K) means you can overclock if desired (assuming you have a Z prefixed motherboard). You may wish to, you may not. The locked versions are typically cheaper if you are certain you don't wish to overclock. It isn't difficult to do, and you can get some better performance if you choose to. Lots of guides online. Note that unlocked Intel CPUs do not come with stock coolers, but locked ones do, so if you decide to go with a locked CPU then you should be able to get by with what's bundled.

Also note, Intel do not presently support PCIE4. This may or may not matter to you :)

so if i dont want to over clock then this bundle is ok to buy right?

if i do want to overclock it dose any changes need to be made?

You are good for overclocking with 10600k. Note the 8 core 10700kf is knocking around for £275 .. would be my choice for futureproofing.

That list is overclock ready (ie, K processor and Z motherboard), meaning you will have the option to overclock if you want to :)

As you have said that you want to do video editing the 10700 or 10700k is going to be the better buy for you, the version depending on how interested you are in overclocking

Ok just a small q?? does overclockers do a case **with** front loading optical drives??

a friend is wanting a *simple* cheap PC for use with simple games on windows 7...
( stop moaning you win 10 guys!! :) ) I have been running win7 myself since it came out, and have recently upgraded an ancient dell 32bit laptop no longer supported by dell, to full win7!
win7 is like my trusty old ford cortina, I know every trick to keep it going and running well!
