i just installed a Xonar DG 5.1 and a set of Roccat Kave 5.1s. Could you guys have a quick look at this screenshot and see if anything is setup wrong.
when i have music on i try the desktop remote "Center" "Front" Rear" "Sub" individualy and only sound comes from the Front and Rear sliders.
Im just not feeling this soundcard and headset at all so it must be setup wrong.

If you want screnshots of anything else let me know and ill update this post.

thanks

Middle image, click on speakers then configure on bottom left and set it up for 5.1 perhaps if its not already? Also use 24bit 44100k or higher i duno. Also check the cables are pushed in all the way. On 3rd image check the levels for each speaker.

I dont get my DG till tomorrow or day after yet but i would check those things out anyhow if you haven't already.

Fine budget soundcard there. Shame about the headset.

The DG is designed to simulate 5.1 speakers with stereo headphones using the Dolby Headphone feature and it does it very well. The Kaves are basically holding it back.

Most music you have will be plain stereo anyway. Some genuine 5.1 material (games, films etc) might suit the Kaves better.

For music, you could try Foobar2000 with a plugin to upmix to 5.1 or see if you can get hold of some genuine 5.1 material. Personally I would just forget it, sell or return the Kaves and get a better stereo headset. £40 odd for a set of Goldring DR150s should do nicely. Maybe a clip-on or desktop mic if you need one.

The Xonar DG plus DR150s will sound far more like 5.1 speakers than the Kaves ever could.

Hmm guess i read the post wrong i thought he had 5.1 speakers and headphones and with the 5.1 speakers the trouble was not outputting to all 5.1 when using whatever the DG does that creatives cmss does when listening to 2 channel sources.

The headset you have will only work really with 5.1 games and movies, music is in the majority of 2 channel stereo so it either needs up-mixed to 5.1 or get proper 5.1 music (extremely rare).

the roccats have got good reviews and after fiddling about with settings the music is actually sounding a lot better. its the ingame sound on bad company 2 and medal of honor (which has a 5.1 setting) i cant seem to get sorted. it sounds too bass and dubby or sumthing. i can barely hear my own footsetps in game and the guns are not firing with a crisp cracking sound. will the roccats need time to brake in before it sounds more crisp?

Is all the settings for headphones? Has changing channels from 6 to 2 done much if u have tried it? Them green icons for headphones do they do anything? Speaker properties boosted from cd quality 16bit to 24bit dvd quality?

Also duno if this is any help but i googled "bad company 2 5.1 headset settings"

http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/...2-pc/1140813-5-1-headphones-game-setup-2.html

Oh and make sure the mic settings in win7 is not causing lower volume while mic is on, perhaps mic is always on and hence lowering the volume i really doubt it but thought id throw that out there lol.

ive found on these forums aswell people talking about the bassy echo effect in game being caued by some latency thing. im now on a lead to install low latency uni drivers to fix this problem.

thanks for the link, it will help me work on fixing and tweaking. i really think once these issues have been ironed out the headset will start to perform as ive seen improvements in music after fiddling around :)
