Just orderd a 360 > help setting up please?

Hi all,

I've just ordered an x box 360 :) First console I have had since selling my N64 years ago so really looking forward to it.

I have ordered a Madcatz monitor lead too as I want to play it on my monitor.

Does it connect via dvi or vga?
I some how need to get the sound set-up too. I would like to use my Aego 2's which are currently plugged into my on-board sound card, is there a connection on the 360 for the sound input?

It is VGA. I would be wary of 3rd party VGA cables as from what I have heard most aren't shielded and will get interference from other electronics. Also from what I have heard the official VGA cable came with a phono to 3.5mm jack adapter, don't know about 3rd party ones.
 
The "monitor" cable is VGA, but you can get DVI-VGA adapters if needed, I happened to have a spare one that came with a graphics card I bought.

edit: I have a madcatz lead and I can't tell any difference between the official one and this one, but some cheaper leads are pants

just got a pre owned mad catz vga for 4.99 and its damn nice on my 24inch (after a bit of auto adjusting 13x7 res fits/scales perfectly)

yeah mine didnt come with a adapter didnt need it anyhow as i was using a amp but easy enough to find a one tho

Ok thanks guys,

I now know I'll be OK with the video but still unsure about sound.

At the moment my speakers connect to the pc via a port like this:

Is there a connector on the 360 like that?

if you buy the offical VGA lead you will get an adapter like the one at the top of this picture and that plugs into your pc soundcard (green socket i think).

if not you can easily get one, from ebay r a good sound/electrical retailer just ask for a "phono to 3.5mm jack adapter" should only be a few pounds

Thanks for reply :),

I don't think that double socket phono to 3.5mm jack will work though as i only have 1 lead. At present my speaker phonos plug into amp to get power and then I have the other cable (the one i want to plug into XBOX) that connects into my onboard sound card on PC.

I think i know the adapter to get though, i just looked on a electronics site that has many shop outlets (begins with M) and did a search. There are loads available (some slightly different). Could you give me a product number of one that would work please?

I have my 360 connected to my speakers like this:

This connects to a 3.5mm Stereo Jack Coupler which looks like this:

Then the speakers plug into the other end.

Thanks for reply, but that wont work i dont think :( as I only have 1 sound input cable i.e the one that plugs into my PC sound card now.

I think I need this but I am not sure, is the sound input on the xbox360 2.5mm? :
