just ordered the power walker pure sine wave 800va 480w ups
my psu on the pc is 650 but load on a calulator is around 500w
i wont get any backup time on this ups i know but will it still work for surge protection etc? it wont burn out or anything will it?

If you're deciding on a UPS worry about the available Wattage not the available VA. There's a recent thread here that towards the end will explain why.

For any meaningful advice you'd need to provide information about what you're trying to achieve by using a UPS.

my electric in this room is being surged when the bath pump in the attic above is being used it makes the pc flicker, it is breaking components in my pc. i want something that is going to regulate the voltage from what i plug in to it and protect against surges, i dont care about more than 5 mins backup time

I'd suggest that you get hold of a plug-in energy monitor and see what the system is actually pulling at the wall under full load. It may be significantly less than the online calculator's estimate.

Presumably the pump in the attic shouldn't be doing what it is? I'd want that fixing as a first option.

What components are getting damaged? The PSU shouldn't be passing anything bad through to the DC side. A flicker on the monitor doesn't necessarily mean the actual PC has been affected.

the problem also could have been because the electric has been on and off a few times in storms and pc had been on at the time
ive now ordered a 1400va 700w apc back ups which should hopefully be fine, my pc ps4 and monitor will be plugged in to it, thanx again

if it says stepped sine wave is my equipment getting that all the time running on normal power from the ups or is it only when the battery kicks in?

Power factor of 0,5...
Design is either museum aged or very cheap Chinese production... or likely both.
But at least it has good battery capacity.
Though surge energy rating is low so wouldn't use it much as surge protector if power lines aren't underground and less in risk from lightning strikes.

Double conversion/on-line UPSes are the ones running inverter constantly.
