Just ordered a Really Right Stuff BH-55, L-Plate for my D300 with grip, replacement foot for the 70-200 and a plate for the 300mm. Plan on getting a Wimberley Sidekick to go with it at a later date. They are to live on my Gitzo 3540XLS :) The manfrotto heads have done me proud for a while, but im looking forward to using the BH-55 instead.

BH-55 that is the ball head one? very robust and really well paired with the gitzo. The manfrotto stuff is good but its just slightly lower in build quality i would say, good for quick trips out though and the side kick would be really handy for the wildlife why wait :p get it now!

Yeah, the BH-55 is considered as one of the best ball heads available. Im expecting the build quality to be more than slightly better than manfrotto gear, but then it did cost 5-6 times more. I would have bought the sidekick straight away, but I ran out of money, lol.

Very nice, everything I read inferred that the BH-55 is about the best you can get, cool.

Yeah, it was between the BH-55, Arca B1 Pro, Markins M20 and a few others, but in all the reviews and comparisons the BH-55 came out on top. Cost a fair bit more than the others, but I thought I would bite the bullet and go for it.

Mates had one of those for the last two years or so... it's an awesome piece of kit.

Very smooth and controlled action - puts my 488 to shame.

I don't happen to have any pics of my actual setup yet, but here is one shamelessly stolen off google images;

I fully intend to write a mini review in the near future though. :)
