ok first thing do I want noobs or just Raspbian, then do I just connect up and hit run or install?

With noobs you copy and paste the files across to the microSD card then slot into the Pi and run it.

Noobs is a method of installation, a tool to install raspbian/ open elec etc.

okay went for rasbian for the moment, ssh and vnc set up with my dektop, off to find more info now.
