im having problems with programs pausing including games i beleive its my wd 250 gig sata II drive at fault.

i went to transfer a 4 gig file in vista ultimate from the wd to a 40 gig drive and got a transfer rate of around 1mb a sec and it was going to take about 3 hours to complete the transfer.

any ideas?

mainboard is a asrock dual vsta 939.

ah it was a oem drive so no cd i just tried a hotfix for vista though and the same transfer i tried last night took 3 minutes instead of nearly 3 hours.

still having a problem with games an stuff pausing from that drive though :(

put guildwars on the 40 gig and that runs fine but on the 250 gig it keeps doing long pauses etc

I have an odd problem with my Vista install, whenever I copy it always reports that it's going 1-10 bytes/sec but i'm getting a far higher transfer rate (i.e it claims the copy will take 6 hours when it takes 6 seconds).

Odd!

video files were playing but really screwing up on that harddrive i thought it was a codec issue but just the same prob guildwars and some other games had :)

hardware config is the same for the drive in xp an it worked :P

vista is really pretty screwed atm :)

In the device manager go to the drive, right click and and click properties. Go to advanced and check the drive is in DMA5.

If it's in PIO (stupid slow mode) then right click the drive, click uninstall, reboot & let windows do it's thing.

Craig.
