Good evening all.

Im just curious about the state of one of my SSD's. I've just been checking over the amount of reads and writes ive had across my 3 ssds.

Of these 3 SSD's one is just for my OS and the other 2 are for gaming. my OS drive and one of my gaming storage drives is showing write rate of 2.5 TB each over 6 months (which from my research of the topics on SSD TDW and lifespan etc is quite good).

However the drive which has steam installed on it as its root is showing total writes of just under 5 TB in 6 months...

The drive in question is over half full ( 1.10 tb used and 780 gb free ) and some of the games i have on there are huge (like stalker 2 and baldurs gate which is nearly 300 gigs alone) and in particular in stalker 2s case, ive had to download it at release (125 gigs) redownload it (another 125 gigs) got its first huge patch (140 gigs) the second smaller patch( about 60 gigs) and thats just for one game in a drive thats nearly half full of titles that are getting huge updates. I noticed that this drive happens to have the vast majority of games i play nearly daily as opposed to the other gaming drive with only 2.5 TB's writes (this drive has the same amount of games stored on it but i rarely play them nor are they actively being patched).

So i guess what id like to ask is, given this is my primary drive for gaming (which i do a lot of) and given that the games on there are large in file size, still being patched and being accessed daily, is the amount of writes im seeing releatively normal for my usage case? (i also used samsung magician and hardware info 64 to check its health and both are saying its ok with an estimated 99% of its lifespan left).

If it's lost 1% of it's useable life in 6 months, that suggests you have around 49 and a half years give or take before it's useable life span is over. We all have varying expectations, however based on given information, I'd just accept that things get worn over time with usage and by the time the nand has expended it's ability to save data you'l sit back in your rocking chair and laugh with your grandchildren at your worries of march 2025.

Realisticly the plasitic will likely degrade by then, and the controller will have failed due to electro migration.

TLDR - It's fine dont worry. It's warrantied for 5 years and 1200tb written. https://download.semiconductor.sams...eet/Samsung_SSD_870_EVO_Data_Sheet_Rev1.1.pdf
