Just purchase Fallout 3... Won't even start

You say you applied the retail 1.7 patch to the Steam version? Bad idea, Steam keeps everything updated itself and chances are the retail patch is incompatible. Can't remember if there's a way to do a repair, but to be safe I'd uninstall it from Steam, delete any remaining files in your steamapps folder, and reinstall.

Yeah I figured as much, so I just deleted the whole game and re-downloaded/installed on Steam. No avail

I remember having a problem with a game on steam, i had to adjust the resolution in steam settings.

Right-click on the game title under the Library in Steam and select Properties.
Under the General tab click the Set launch options... button.
Enter the launch options you wish to apply (be sure to separate each code with a space) and click OK.
Close the game's Properties window and launch the game.
-w <width> - Forces the engine to start with resolution set to <width>.
-h <height> - Forces the engine to start with resolution set to <height>. This launch option does not need to be set in the presence of -w. The width value with determine the height automatically.

Every one who's taking the **** price wise, go look on play.com for "Fallout 3: Game Of The Year Edition"

It's the same price. This version includes all the expansions which are like 10 quid each

I got mine for £20 :S from game if I remember currently

*yes it is only £20 retail from game*

game of the year

Doh I wanna play it now

I reckon this is the problem, the game doesn't support the 400 series of GF graphics. Kinda lame considering every other game I play (including World at War) runs perfectly. Ah well :(

I doubt there's much difference between 3GB and 4GB in terms of system performance. XP on 3GB is more than fast enough. I do take your point about DX10/11 tho. Would be nice to have support for that

Not true it works perfectly on my GTX480 ;) Make sure you installed the newest GFWL client which came out today as well as having the latest dot.net framework.

Otherwise ask MS they have a dedicated Fallout3 forum over here:

I installed Win 7 64bit and it runs perfectly, no problems whatsoever. So I guess it was something with XP.

7 seems pretty nifty, so I guess I'll use this for gaming and then my XP partition for everything else
