Just updated my american iphone (1st gen), now its locked

Firmware 2.2 contains a baseband update which relocks the phone
from what I can tell, there isn't a way to downgrade it again

the iPhone Dev team are working on unlocking the new baseband so their website might be somewhere to watch http://blog.iphone-dev.org

the only option for you, is get turbo sim cards then this should sort you out. =)

best turbo sim is rebel simcard or GEVEY sim.

On what network do you need it to be? And what firmware did you update to?

Follow this guide http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17935990
This guide is great, but i've updated my 2G iPhone to 2.2 firmware (Not the 2.1 on the guide) and cant get iTunes to restore to 2.1 firmware.

So im stuck at the first step with iTunes restore, because iTunes downloads the latest firmware only

any ideas?

Oh i see, so i put the 2.1 ipsw into the itunes restore folder so it doesnt check for a "latest" one

Problem:

itunes doesnt let me select what firmware to restore to, it just goes straight to the online database and downloads the latest, 2.2

Apologies for not updating the guide sooner. Law degree can be hectic at times!

You're best bet is to stick on 2.2 and follow my guide (now updated).

What are you on, Mac or PC?
