Just updated to windows 8.1, now my GPU is playing up

I updated to 8.1 from 8 and when i first got into my desktop, i noticed my resolution was on the lowest settings which is also what it recommends. My MSI afterburner wont recognize my GPU too.

This was pretty annoying and so rather than trying to fix things i went to restore it to before the update. Unfortunately the restore point i set a few hours ago was deleted too -.-

Any ideas on how to fix things?

Have tried re-installing AMD drivers but no luck.
 
Yeah windows 8 is a car crash of an OS hahah, 7 is much better :) but seriously, ive seen lots of people have lots of issues with the 8.1 update on many things from hard to mice and keyboards and even headsets etc.
 
yeah i agree with W8.1 i've had nothing but trouble with it, but W8 is perfectly fine once you get used to it.

Plus it feels a lot more snappier than W7.
 
Does your graphics card show up in device manager? Also, might be worth checking to make sure you don't have any intel graphics drivers installed (assuming you have an intel CPU).

When I updated to 8.1 it messed up my USB ports completely. No power to them or anything until I went into device manager and removed the USB interface device and rescanned for changes. Only way I was able to fix that was to do a clean install of 8.1 which wasn't easy as I have no disks.
 
meh driver reinstalls not helping, all my restore points not working.

I was using windows 8 with pokki, which was amazing. Windows 8.1 is giving me issues though D:

Will probably do a fresh install

Pokki is the way forward :)

TBH i do a fresh install every year for each of my rigs and this one is coming up to the 11 months mark.

Fresh install and drive format.

Windows wouldnt detect my GPU or drives. Drives took me a while to get going and all i needed for the GPU was to manually show where the driver is (didnt work before the fresh install).

Everything is now working, thanks guys.
 
Glad you're back up. I gave up on win8.1 on my AMD system. The latest bios (1602) has an issue with the powersaving features and results in random shutdowns for a lot of people.

But new games that using dx11.1 like bf4 are 50% faster than windows 7.
If you also don't like new start you can easy install a windows 7 start menu onto Windows 8.

My windows 8.1 works perfectly fine.

My guess would be remove your current driver with display driver uninstaller great program for completely removing the drivers. Find it on guru 3d site, and then install a fresh driver.

Wrong
Windows 8 added dx11.1 and 11.2 I take it you don't play bf4 because if you did you missing out running Windows 7.

Reading back think I missed read your post.
