i dont want any links to competitors, i just want to know if its possible to purchase vista and just get the serial emailed?

Got a Friend with Vista 32/64 *retail* installed so what i want to do is install visa using his disk.

Are there any "TRUST WORTHY" ( :) ) sites that do this?

*also a side note* i've got a dell lappy with 2gz coreduo, 2 gig ram and 256mb 7900gt, and dell sent me a free upgrade from windows mce 2005 to vista pro 32 but i want ultimate, what would you be best for my laptop 32 or 64?

Don't think so.

I assume you're doing this because you're in a rush?

Install using his disc, don't enter a key. You have 30 days to type it in - so when your DVD and Product Key arrive in the post, you can use it then.

:D cheers mate never knew that, you cn have vista installed without a serial for 30 days.

one question could i install the 64 bit first for say 5 days and if that runs well for me (and i find all the needed drivers :) ) buy the 64 bit version and use the serial that comes with it, but if it dont work well, install the 32 bit over it and have a new 30 day grace period in which to enter the serial?

,thxs for the help

You can postpone the 30 day grace period for a further 90 days using a well documented, fully legal method that Microsoft has built into Vista.

EDIT: Have a look here.

:D that v nice to know, could wait abit before buying it and see if prices go a bit down, special offers pop up or someone with the retail version may sell their version (though i'm not sure if that is 100% legal)

Prity sure it's illegal if you are using someone elses copy of windows to take advantage of this grace period?

I misread the OP. I didn't think he was being bad and using someone else's DVD. If so, yes, extending the grace period is not technically allowed but then neither is borrowing someone else's DVD.

Are is using someone else's DVD illegal :p . All you need is the key, the key is what makes it all legal. So just install it using his DVD and then when your key arrives, just enter it and off you go.

:) not being bad, i just need vista quickly, originally wanted to know if i could purchase the serial legally from anywhere and have them email the serial as it is a lot faster then mailling the box.

i'm using the grace period as i want vista installed quickly but didnt want to go to the high street and pay stupid money (i mean £220ish for ultimate vista upgrade dvd is stupid imho), soon as its installed i was gona buy it online at a better price. Also i'm not sure if i could find 64 bit version drivers of all my hardware, so i wanted to install the 64 bit version to see if i could (as i have heard about people who couldn't) and buy the 64 bit oem or the 32 bit oem if i couldn't.

If extending the grace period is illegal i wont do it.

Overall i'm quite sure what i'am doing isn't anything bad else i wouldn't do it :)

I thought the grace period was only for activation, and that you had to type the key in at the start of windows installation? Thats how xp was.

Then you thought wrong.

On installation, you can omit the key and choose whichever edition you like. You then have 30 days to type in a key and activate.

If you type in a key, I believe this limit is reduced to 3 days before activation (although I'm not sure on this)

You have 30 days in which to activate when you insert a key as long as you untick the automatically activate windows checkbox. However you do lose the ability to extend this a further 90 days.

Have a look at the different packages here > I have removed the links as they are a competitor, i can't seem to see anywhere that the (license) version includes the CD/DVD media.

Also take a look here > I have removed the links as they are a competitor, this is when i click buy and look at the product details.

Then how do you explain this > I have removed the links as they are a competitor when clicking buy, just try clicking on a few of the buy links at the bottom of the M$ site.
