K&N Panel Filter

Inductionkit =? Cone filter...

the two are actually very different...unfortunately insurance companies do not want to know about the differences, other than charging you a fortune for it!

Just found out that Direct Line noobs won't insure any modifications on a car to anyone under the age of 25, not even small modifications.

So basically the K+N is a no go :( , thanks for the help anyway guys.

Can see them not covering an induction kit....but simply using a different brand of panel filter? Pfft.

Anyway, Ill let you buy one and tell me if its any good before I decide :D

You dont have to tell them about panel filter because they cant tell and would have no reason to look in the air box. I have done various mods to my car and only told them about the ones which are obvious.. so thats... erm... none :D

Just get a cone filter, go B&Q get some cooker air ducting & then you have your cold feed :)

Dunno if its faster but it sounds 'meaty' under full throttle.

Cant believe your Insurance companies stance dude, heck I went from a 1.2 fiesta to 1.6 saxo & Elephant charged an extra £20, then told em about the cone filter & they increased it by another £17. These administration costs are terrible LOL...

as for drilling airboxes... i recommend against that. on the golf sites people bang on about drilling airboxes, i went along with it too. i then placed my outside air temp sensor in the air box. when stuck/crawling along in traffic, intake temps were going over 40*C

i then sealed up the holes, modified the 'warm air intake' (that leads to the exhaust manifold) and added a long 50mm hose so that it now breathes from the front fog light blank.

my intake temps are barely ever more than a few degrees above ambient. i know because i have an temp sensor in there

You do know... you don't drill the side of the airbox that faces the engine don't you?

You drill the side furthest away, potentially closest to the wing. Doubt you'd get heatsoak from that. I didn't notice it anyway... especially not like I did when I had a K&N bolted to the throttle body.

yup, thats what i did lol the holes in mine were all wing-side. id read about it on the golf board, was sceptical so to test the theory i put the temp sensor in there so could see the intake temp from the dashboard (i am an utterly shameless geek haha)

on a 21*C day last summer i got caught in slow moving traffic, the temp quickly rose to 40+*C in the box and took and age to come back down on the motorway.

ill get some pics of my new (new as of last summer) intake setup. very effective, better than a cone by a mile too

Put the filter on today, without a doubt the car definitely seems more keen and free revving. The sound has changed slightly it gives off a burbling noise when revving which sounds quite nice. It also seemed effortless and more keen to get to higher revs than before but maybe it's just me
