Using 'k' i think is fine, substituting weather with whether and ware with wear etc is more annoying in my opinion.

Regarding the question, you're probably right, she probably doesn't fancy saying OK so shortens it to act a little more peeved as it's shorter and sharper than OK.

Short for 'okay'. In the same way you use 'gf', short for 'girlfriend'.

I just say 'k' when all they need to hear is some acknowledgement of what they have said.
