Just a few comparison pics between these two phones. Both are from carphone warehouse and sim-free generic handsets:

I much prefer the styling of the K810i, although the K750i's is also very good. The screen of the 810 does collect a few more fingerprints than the 750, but they are not noticeable in most light conditions.

The 810's joystick is less inset but has a much more positive "click" when moved in a direction. It's also black, rather than the silver of the 750.

The screen has gone from 176x220 to a 240x320, and the difference really is incredible. So much sharper and much better colours.

Whilst being slightly wider and taller than the 750, the 810 is slimmer despite the 3.2MP camera.

The camera cover on the 810 is far better than the 800. Not once has it opened in my pocket.

Like the 800, it opens laterally rather than vertically like the 750. On the 810, the camera software is not activated until the lens cover 'clicks' into the open position, whereas on the 750 the camera activated on even a slight opening of the cover.

The Xenon flash makes a massive difference in bad lighting conditions, helped by the red/orange AF assist light, which can also be used as a torch with a seperate Java app.

I will admit the keypad on the K810i does take a bit of getting used to. But I now prefer it to the 750 by a long way. The only downside is that because the keys are metal, if a case is used for the phone, you cannot see the keys in dark conditions.

However the keys have a positive tactile feel to them, and the spacing is perfect for me. I do see how some people will not like the design, so do try one in the shop before you buy it.

Here you can see the slimmer 810. Unlike several of SE's newer phones (eh. W610i and W880i, the Fastport socket is still on the bottom. In addition, the mic has swapped sides.

Overall both phones are fantastic, the K750i has served me very well for nearly two years. If you have the K800i, the upgrade to the K810i is probably not worth the money. But if you still have a K750i, the K810i is a fantastic upgrade and you won't be disappointed.

I haven't posted any comparison pics because there are hundreds on the net, I'm sure you can find some if you want.

I had the old K810i, and wasn't that fussed by it. But I really like the look of the new one, but unfortunately I'm stuck the Nokia N95 which is always braking!! I know that all SE's are much more reliable than the N95!

Anyway, Good review and keep the good work up!

I can imagine the k810i's keypad being annoying and I think the plastic gap around the screen up to the phones edge makes it look smaller than it really is, whereas on the k800i it has a chrome border around the screen which kind of compliments it, dont you think..?

Still, k810i is on my 'maybe' list for a new phone :)

I'm looking at a new phone. Currently have a nokian 70, gf and sister have a nokia 6111... all three phones have had problems / been unreliable and slow - but have been under the impression that nokias have improved now. Would you disagree that they're better? SE's are more reliable in your opinion?

quick question to you guys....
will this phone run tom tom 6 mobile?got a mate who is thinking of running a sat nav on his phone and wants to know if it will work(i know next to nowt about phones see :D )

Holy thread revival batman  Thanks though, I was looking for this the other day. I miss the search function :(

As to your question, I believe Tomtom is a Symbian app, and as such this phone won't run it. These are non-smartphones and will only run Java apps.

Jon

oh well thanks for the info :(
edit : i meant the k810i with my question, just noticed that the above posts refer to both the k810i and the 750 :o

Yup, unfortunately it won't work on either :(

However, as Alex suggested, you might to give Wayfinder a go. I've never used it, but heard it's good.

Jon

PS. Alex, blistering fast 2.4mhz CPU there, nice :p :D

sorry :o

Hey mate are you having a joke i an a little confused sorry , maybe its a complement sorry if it was lol , 2.4mhz is not as fast as some of the dual core available but um i would not say blistering but it does the job like .

and as for the wayfider come sony erricsson k810i situation .
well i got to say i am impressed , i used the wayfinder on the way home from work and got to say works a treat even got the gatso camera warnings aswell , yeah i tidy little peice of kit teamed with a decent gps receiver , cant reconmend it enough to be honest.
i am well happy now got rid of the n95 for reasons which i can only say is that nokia's quality team must have been on annual leave when this was being put through the test , so i sold up and bought to k810i which eqauls happy as a pig in **** , i now got a decent camera a good phone and sat nav ...

JUST HAD A LOOK AT THE WAYFINDER SITE AND AM A LITTLE BIT CONFUSED
does it use gprs phone line to get a fix,as it seems to me that is what it does i.e. phones up to know where it is
or does it work just like tom tom as a stand alone app
thank you for your patience :)

It very much like the nokia maps outing fella , its assisted gps from what i can gather , yeah it does use gprs and both gps which you end up with a fast result.
it walks you through to set up process , i would recommend mind that you do have a good data package for your contract .

Why compare a K750i with a k810i? Should it not be...

K750i <> W810i
K800i <> K810i

A while back I upgraded from the K750i >> W810i its practically the same phone. I would have gone K810i if it had been available, I didn't like K800i.

Lol ha ha ha i have only just realised what a muppet lol .

Haha sorry I wasn't clear :D I was, as you've now worked out, referring to the mhz instead of ghz in your sig :)

@Osprey: I did the review with a K750i and a K810i simply because those are the phones I have :) It's mainly for people who use the cameras on their phones a lot and have had the K750i for a couple of years, and are looking at upgrading to one of the newer generation K-series.

As another option is the "GPS Enabler HGE-100", which SE are going to release soon. It was promoted to work with the K530i phone, but according to the whitepaper it will work with the K800i/K810i as well as some other more recent SE phones.

The Sony Ericsson HGE-100 is compatible with the following handsets: K530i, K550i, K550im, K800i, K810i, K850i, S500i, T250i, T650i, W580i, W610i, W660i, W710i, W850i, W880i, W910i, Z530i, Z550i, Z610i, Z710i and Z750.

Have a look at the article here.

Obviously I haven't used it so I can't comment on how good it is or the user interface, but it might be worth looking into.
