k800i battery problem

I have got a question regarding the 3G (UMTS) icon that appears at the top left of the signal bar. If this icon is constantly appearing, does it drain the battery?

Recently, my battery has been dying a lot quicker and only lasts about 1 or 2 days with minimal usage. Bluetooth is turned off, screen brightness is at 70%. This has only been happeneing recently and I had the phone since January 2007.

could it be the battery at fault??

Having 3G turned on does drain the battery quicker, yes.

To turn it off go to:
Menu > Settings > Connectivity > Mobile networks -> GSM/3G networks

is it best to just select GSM then as oppose to GSM and 3G?

That will save on battery power.

Obviously though, only select the GSM only option if you don't use 3G features

ooo cheers just got my k800i the other day and was wondering what that icon was for lol
