** Kane & Lynch: Dead Men **

Great game, never had any success getting a multiplayer game though so don't know if that side is any good.

Same as above... picked it up a couple of months after release and couldn't find anyone to play with online. :(

Was a good game too, single player had a strong narrative(up until the last 3rd). In fact, it's one of the few games I've not traded in even though I'm unlikely to play again.

Yeah its not a bad game at all. Very underated and the reviews were a complete joke it did not deserve the ratings it got. Its not the best game ever but certainly better than a lot of other games and the co-op & online modes are a lot of fun. The japanese nightclub level alone is incredible the number of NPC's onscreen at once is staggering. I recently did all the SP missions to get the LIVE achievements.

Any idea why the game seems to freeze when i host games ? It freezes for quite a while, then usually someone drops and the game continues, like theres some connection issue that freezes the game up. Really wish theyd of at least got 1 patch out for this game, the multiplayer, from what ive played, seems quite fun :(.

Wow, just started playing it this weekend and I have to say I'm very impressed. I wasn't expecting much at all based on the reviews but I'm liking it a lot so far.

Good:
+Decent framerate 60-120fps on max
+Graphically it looks ok for a console port
+Big gunfights in the street with AI mates, very cinematic and reminiscent of the movie Heat
+Storyline seems fine so far at least for Kane, not really sure what to make of Lynch
+I like games where you can give squad orders even though it seems a bit under-utilised in K&L

Bad:
-Weapon accuracy is a bit off, at long range the best option often seems to be spray and pray because even if you take the time to lineup a shot it will miss anyway.
-Some of the textures are a bit unconvincing
-Enemy AI, like 90% of games, is pretty mediocre. They take cover quite well but don't seem to respond to you shooting them in the leg.
-Unconvinced by the auto-cover system

Viewed as an overall package there are some obvious flaws but the key things it gives you are big set piece gun fights driven forward by a compelling storyline. It's a bit like an interactive movie and I can't help but wonder if some minor enhancements and tweaks would have made it a much better received game.

My big regret now is that I didn't play this a month ago, then I would have bought K&L2 in the Steam sales :(

K&L 2 will be a recurring sales item that's for sure.

I preferred the first to the second, but I got stuck trying to rescue my daughter out of that pit which was quite close to the beginning and gave up.

K&L2 unfortunatly doesn't really compete with the first.

I thought the first was a great game, but i couldnt see past the huge amount of flaws in the second one. There is very little in the way of story, and overall it is incredibly poor. I think steam had it for £3.75? Incredibly cheap for a game not even a year old!

The first one is miles better.

I've always been on the fence regarding the K&L games,I was pretty much put off by the universal slagging they received. Then again Far Cry 2 was universally slagged but I regard it as one of my fave shooters of recent times. Will definitely give K&L a chance sometime in the near future,it should be cheap on steam.

The first one was the biggest load of elephant dung I have ever seen and lasted all of 30 minutes before it got uninstalled. Rubbish gameplay and full of the dreaded invisible walls. I just have no time for stuff like that.

This new one *looks* good....and I dare say that will be its only strongpoint. Will be surprised if it isnt.

There was a thread the other day about Far Cry 2,quite a few people chimed in saying they hated the game and uninstalled it within 10mins,some even gave it 1/2 hour! lol, nothing like giving it a chance!:D

If a game is crap then fair enough but I don't see how anyone can make a realistic judgement after 30mins of play.

I enjoyed FC2 but you needed to make your own fun really. That was its downfall.

It certainly didn't provide the entertainment readily packaged like COD-type games....it just required a bit of imagination.

You've nailed it there mate. Lets face it imagination is something that's seriously lacking in todays attention deficit disordered gaming generation.Too many E numbers I reckon.:D

One issue that K&L and FC2 both shared was the lack of any empathy with the characters.

K&L took some getting used to for me, but once I actually gave it a chance, and got past the first level, I actually enjoyed it. At least there was variety in it's locations (the nightclub location impressed me simply because I don't think I'd ever seen that amount of characters onscreen before without it dropping the framerate). The story seemd a bit disjointed/jumpy between levels though.

I liked FC2 for a few hours, until I realised it was totally repetetive. The same missions, the same scenery, a story (what there was) that didn't interest me in the slightest, and utterly nondescript characters, and I'd had enough. I remember one of the NPC sidekicks that you could get at points dying at the side of the road - and had the option to help her or kill her. I was so emotionally uninvolved with the game I did neither - I just walked away and left her to die.

I hear what youre saying but unfortunately for me 1st impressions are everything and it didnt take long for me to realize that this was not a game I wanted hanging around. It just felt clunky. No doubt it had an intruiging storyline and it looked kinda good but it just didnt float for me. And I know it doesnt bother a great many people but I have a personal hatred for invisible walls!

hmmm im enjoying K&L:2 atm as i got it in the xmas sales for £3.75 but if the first is better ill give it a go.

confused by the comments saying it has, essentially, no decent narrative because im liking the story and its easily as good as many other 'good' games.

edit: hmmm will admit that there is some 'disjointedness' in the level design though and to say the end is abrupt is an understatement lol.

lol just found out that Zero punctuation has rated K&L:2 his worst of the year.

Yeah I have noticed this, it's a bit annoying because it actually has the framework of a decent storyline but then it just sweeps you off to some random location where everyone is suddenly say in military fatigues and helping you out? At one point I actually wondered if the level that had just started was a flashback or something like that but no, it was a linear continuation!

in terms of empathy with the characters that's a fair point it feels a bit like you should get more background on Lynch considering he is one of the title characters, basically we know he is a bit of a psycho but do we really care?

Personally I thought K&L2 was pants! Typical clunky TPS... shoot bad guy, run to cover, shoot other bad guy, run to cover...

I've wasted so much money on Steam over the past couple of months on games I play for no longer than an hour. The only recent game that managed to keep me hooked was Mafia 2

If that was a reply to my post, then the story comment was aimed at FarCry 2.

If you're enjoying the 2nd K&L then you'll probably like the first.
