I installed Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 the other week but have noticed it eating up my internet bandwidth for no apparent reason. Since I'm with Virgin Media this is resulting in my being throttled - so I want to figure out what it's doing, and how to stop it!
So here's the scale of the problem: today so far it has downloaded 44.5GB (according to its Network Traffic monitor, accounting for roughly 90% of all network traffic) and uploaded 115MB. Last week it downloaded a total of 173.8GB
I'm running Win7 x64 on a home network with other computers on (internet through router). At first I wondered if it was scanning the files of other computers in my house (and therefore not using the internet) but there is no scan running, and the network usage continues even when I disable all components. It can't possibly be updating itself. Quite frankly, it's a ridiculous amount of data, and I've emailed Kaspersky about it but I'm still waiting to hear back from them; when (and if) they reply hopefully they'll be able to sort it out somehow but I thought I'd post here in case anyone has any ideas about what it could be, or what to try?
I did consider blocking Kaspersky access to the web but I'm unsure on how to block the program while still allowing it to update itself.
So, any helpful hints or ideas, or just condolences
?
Cheers
