I have a virgin media superhub 2 in modem mode pair up with a Linksys EA6900 which i use for wireless connections. I keep getting instances where i wont have an internet connection and in order for me to get the internet up and running again i have to log into my Linksys and release and renew the IPv4 address. Any ideas why i keep having to do this?

Im guessing that's 'Client lease time' in the DHCP options?, if so its currently set to 1440 minutes

The client lease time setting you're referring to will apply to the client devices connected to the LAN side of the router.

This sounds more like an issue with the WAN side connection.

It's difficult to be certain with the limited information provided.

Ok thanks, what other information do you need to know?

Firstly what does your 'release and renew' involve? Which IP address are you talking about?

What's the history of this problem? Something that worked or ages and then started playing up, or something new that has never worked properly. The context is important.

It obviously shouldn't be happening. Either something is broken, or you've done something wrong with the configuration. Tell us what you did.

If you haven't already done so it's worth checking for firmware updates. Also a factory reset and setup from scratch can often fix 'odd' issues.

A few (small) screen grabs showing the settings wouldn't hurt.

Or you could try forgetting the network from the laptop you're using then setting up the connection again.

If it's only the one device that is having the issue.

Sorry for the late reply.

Ive not always had this issue, probably been happening for the last 10 month or so ive just put up with it and didnt think much to it, but the last week its happened 3 time in the space of about 10 days, it always seems to happen sometime in the night as ill wake up and notice theres no internet connection on my mobile phone. This is the setting i change....

the release and renew on the iPv4.

The setup i have is the Virgin Media Superhub in modem mode which has a Linksys EA9600 connected to if for wireless and then i also have a ASUS RT-N56U router connected to the Linksys (via a super long CAT5 cable) that is down stairs for wireless downstairs and the garden. These are the IP address for these 3 device...

Superhub2 192.168.100.1
Linksys 192.168.1.1
ASUS 192.168.1.2

I was under the impression that the superhub should be on a completely different subnet to the Linksys and Asus??

Your three local (192.168.n.n) IPs look fine, just what you'd expect in your situation.

The IP you're refreshing is the WAN IP. Unfortunately I've got no insight into why this should be happening.

If you haven't tried a factory reset on the Linksys I'd start there.

You could try temporarily swapping the roles of the Asus and the Linksys and see if the problem remains.

If all else fails put the hub back into router mode and make sure that fixes it. Even in router mode you can use your other routers for the wireless side of things.
