Keep It British!

This is what happens when you give young Conservatives a "design a website" assignment as homework.

The scroll bars alone and the use of frames are actually making my eyeballs bleed.

I also find that when I have had to work closely with 'johnny foreigner' in a professional capacity, Eastern Europeans and Indians have some of the strongest work ethics I've ever seen. If something needs done, it's done immediately.

too true, my grandad preferred working in india and saudi as they actually work for their money, so jobs got done and they got done properly, and if they finished a job early they found more work to do.

The polish may like working hard now, but give it a few years when they've settled in and they'll soon be moaning for better jobs and pay.

I don't think people look at the immigrant crisis long term, yes they'll take the crappy jobs now. But not always, they will want more and more from this country.

Why not invest in the people already here, yes it will cost more but at least we won't have so many people scrounging off the state.

because people here don't want investing in, they just want the money.

don't forget all these polls are paying TAXES here.

Well then they need to change, stop making it so damn easy to get "the money".

Also, the polish may be paying taxes here but a lot of them also send a nice wedge of their income home to poland. Money that a Brit would spend here, boosting our own economy.

I work in a call centre and used to deal with other banks all the time, most commonly Barclays and HSBC. I never had anything like as many problems that were clear communication issues with the English Barclays staff as I did with HSBC who were in India.
Having said that, however, there are a lot of people who work beside me who are not from the UK, and have similar broken English to that of an Indian call centre. I know that some of them have problems communicating properly with customers because they are difficult to understand, but this is still within the UK.
I have had problems with customers who have very strong English accents and just can't pronounce anything properly. I doubt many people like this would be any better in a call centre than Indians.

So basically, as far as I'm concerned, unless call centres started hiring people based on their ability to speak clearly, it makes no difference to the consumer.

they also spend the money here (on accomidation etc) thus boosting the economy

Cant you see the bigger picture??

Its not really call centres is it???

What are your kids going to do in 20 years, when the entire british workforce is.... well....not british... and we have a new "british unemplyoed record" of people claiming the dole becuase companies are paying 50p an hour or out sourcing everything.

I suspect there will now be a barrage of imature retorts and stupid comments like "brits dont want to do crap jobs like pick starwberries and work in call centres"

Great so we do a lot of banking in our country now, we dont make "anything"
we are a nation of media salepeople, IT idiots and middle managers.

I would rather talk to an answering machine than "roger" in india, that is reading his script, cant actually do anything to help me other than the 3 things he has been taught, like a parrot.

Its just global exploitation and i hope this lousy capitalist monsters swallows itself.

Lets all move to Cuba. (awaits another stupid reply) :p

With the wealth of companies that have signed up, I'm sure that foreign outsourcing will be a thing of the past in weeks.

Nice to see the guy let his 5 year old design the site in Word 97 though. Shame about the spelling mistake in the link to itself....

That website is terrible. I have a friend who runs a team of developers in India. They could whip him up a much better looking site in no time.

Pathetic protectionism promoting websites for the lose !

The company I work for prides itself on good Customer Service and Technical Support, you wouldn't get that with an outsourced foreign callcentre, however it is more expensive and is aimed at businesses, most home users prefer to pay £10 less a month and speak to Inidans it seems. Don't blam the company it is the customers who want it as cheap as possible.

Long live multi-cultural Britain and other countries I say... couldn't give a monkies about this really - if Brits are so worried about their culture disappearing or being overwhelmed maybe they need to start doing more than selling out, drinking beer and eating pies. ;)

Don't get me wrong I'm all for patriotism and being proud of ones country, and believe it or not I'm proud of certain aspects of my british nationality very much so - however I'm very anti one creed cultures and very much for multi culturalism in all aspects. The Brits are taking over jobs of other people all around the world - so fairs fair really.

It sounds overly aggressive and somewhat xenophobic to me.

I bank with Lloyds TSB for the record.

So do I and I much prefer dealing in branch to over the phone.
My last experience with them over the phone was with an Indian call center and it was poor. When I asked to be transferred to my branch there was a pause and then she claimed to be my branch. When I am trying to sort out a problem on the phone I prefer to speak to someone whom I can communicate with effortlessly.

It seems a lot of places are bringing their call centers back to the UK, so I guess your experience is less common than mine.

/prays there's sarcasm in that post...

They are the single most annoying thing a company has ever decided to do. Norwich Union being one of the worst...

I insure with NU, that has been interesting, they've brought some of the jobs back I think.
