Hi,

I have a dlink G604T ADSL router, and every few days at best sometimes hours I need to reboot it.

What happens is internet just stops working, sometimes sites like google work but images don't load and it is really slow. As soon as it is rebooted it is ok.

Think I jsut need to get a new router now and if so assume it is better to get a ADSL2 one for future proofing ?

Thanks.

My one used to do this after a lot of torrenting - apparently it's the NAT table filling up, or something.

Google for the [australian, IIRC] V2.0 firmware update if you don't have that already - has solved that problem on my one.

I'll try to rememver to hunt down the links tonight if that helps?

I have exactly the same issue with my dlink.
I'll come back to a red light on the router after doing some torrenting.
a quick reset and it's fine!

hmm thanks, rather not buy a router for the sakes of it tbh.

With UKonline now and if I upgrade to 16mb Broadband I have to buy their Netgear router for £50. So guess that's an option....

Ya, to get 16Mb you'd need ADSL2 which the G604T doesn't support - I'm getting narked with Demons 50gb a month limit and thinking of buggering off to be*, so I'd need a new modem too.

TBH I think the G604T is a bit underspecced compared to todays routers, which are a good three to four years newer, and have had memory and CPU increases since, which explains why they handle torrenting better. I suspect my router hasn't wet itself so much as I haven't been torrenting that much lately full stop!

Something I've found on older routers, is when logging is enabled, it reduces the lifespan of the router significantly. Disable logging and it should last a bit longer.

Also, NAT Tables filling up could be an issue, particularly if it is an older router.
