Need some advise on the iMac i got recently for pretty cheap.

For some reason i just carn't get on with OSX, not for what id normaly use a PC for anyway. And also i have a mobile internet dongle and i carn't for the life of me get it working.

So what i have is 2 choices.

Whipe OSX off and just have windows 7 installed (Is this possible?) How easy would that be?

Or sell the iMac and buy a laptop or a pc?

If i still had my iPhone i would probably be more intrested in "getting to know" osx. But it's not for me, not yet anyway. I may give it ago sometime in the future, but id rarther stick with what i know for now
 
DONT!?!?!

I was like you, not too sure of OSX but it is 10x better than windows. When you get to know it things just click and if you don't know, it is more often than not the simplest thing to guess. The only annoying thing is when you get compatability issues but this is negated by parallels or bootcamp (which you can use to run windows from startup). There is no point in having a Mac if you use windows (unless its for special software)....
 
Maybe. The biggest thing for me is the mobile internet, apparently three stopped supporting mac?

Ive googled high and low and tried lots of suggestions but it just wont do anything, it might be because im using an older version of OSX?

With upgrading the OS is it possible to buy, download an iso and then burn to disk? Or can i just torrent it and buy a serial (Or is it not done like that?) As id like to give the newest version a bash first, and i don't realy want to wait till next week for it to be delivered.

Personally I would say that if you don't get on with OSX and if you've given it a good try then move back to what you know and prefer. But I would

Also, you could move to a different dongle provider if 3 really don't support OSX (which I would be surprised at).

Intel core duo
2.4 ghz
2gb Memory
OSX version: 10.4.11

The three dongle has a mac installer on it, but when installed it wont open. Now im guessing my version of OSX is to new for that version or to old. And i carn't find older/newer versions to try anywhere.

I think i have given it a good go, but after looking and the osx screenshot thread the newest version looks a lot better (Is it?) so i think id like to try that first, just to be sure
 
Officially the only way you can upgrade the OS is to buy the full pack which contains Snow Leopard, iWork and iLife. That's not so say that buying the £25 Snow Leopard upgrade won't work because it will but technically you're not going to be licensed if you do that.

I've never really used Tiger so I can't comment on the differences.

And please remember - No buying/selling outside the Members Market :)

I've made that bigger so that everyone notices it and doesn't try and buy this from Neodite via this thread.
 
I had a lot of trouble on my wifes old Tiger machine with printer drivers, etc. So it's likely that a move to Snow Leopard may help. But you'd need to check the specs on the 3 dongle.
 
I would say try SL and see from there, you might be able to get a set of drivers for the dongle from somewhere, I had a 3 dongle about a year ago and it worked on a mac.
 
My (SIM free) dongle works fine with 3 and T-Mobile. Likewise my 3 Mi-Fi.

I Launch2Net to configure the dongle and my mobile phones.
 
Bang it on Snow Leopard - it's a small investment and if you're still not enjoying it, sell it on. You'll probably fetch a reasonable amount for it still, they go for a decent sum second hand.

For the sake of £25 I'd definitely try Snow Leopard, Tiger was a great OS but it's getting on now.
 
I've always wanted to branch out and try the apple OS. I tried the latest one out in the apple store and I just couldn't get comfortable with it. I think it just takes time to get to know, I have heard a lot of good things about it from ardent mac users.

My experience with 3 dongles is not good at all. I had one which I used with my sony vaio laptop. Lucky I keep the everest hardware monitor gadget on at all times because my laptop was getting slow and crashing (due to overheating), on investigating I found that when the dongle was plugged it it ramped up my cpu usage to 100%
 
Well while i was off work i went out and got snow leopard. And it feels a lot better, Ive yet to try and install my 3 dongle, ill give it ago at the weekend when i have the imac with me at work.

So for now atleast im going to keep it. One thing im realy not enjoying is the mouse, are there better ones out there? Ive tryed the air in the shop and i wasn't very impressed. Will any mouse just be a plug in and go? Or will i have to check to see if they have supporting mac drivers?
 
Most of snow lep is under the bonnet.
Mac OS is 100x better than win 7 and more stable.

You can use any PC mouse on a mac, no drivers needed.
 
my Three dongle works fine on Snow Leopard here, you just have to hunt for the right software and ignore the rubbish they give you, just search for the mac software for the dongle its from huwaei I think
 
I got it working, i never bothered with the three software, i just used the drivers and used the dialup connection in mac's network.

Working like a dream now :)

All i have to solve is my bootcamp problem and all is perfect :D
