Keeping a multi-tool in the glovebox

You have good reason to have it with you, so don't worry about it.

Victorinox in glove box and sometimes in pocket. 1 and 1/4" knife on keyring in pouch. Old scouting knife in centre console with tool for destoning horses hooves.
 
My multi tool saved my bacon on the a3 when at minus 7 a window that was frozen into the frame dropped into the door, about 100 miles from home and 100 miles from destination. Disassembled door card whilst kneeling in the snow at the side of the road. Wouldn't have been possible without the tool

That prompted me to buy another for the other golf

also take the example of a baseball bat.

Its just a piece of sports equipment that a man carrying one with his son to the park with a baseball glove and ball would not warrant a second look.

Gang of youths hanging around street corners, and one of them stuffing it up the sleeve of their jacket with no ball or glove in sight however ... and it becomes a weapon.

Its all about the context.
 
Basically, as long as you dont look like a thug it's fine :D

Would reccomend keeping it out of easy reach though, then they wouldnt think twice about it being used maliciously.

Random checks etc. I don't live in a nice part of London, and with the Olympic's coming up I expect more of this sort of stuff. They already do random car checks in Stratford Westfield shopping center.

Funny you mention this cos I just remembered a scene from Traffic Cops where some guy got charged for having a baseball bat in his boot, can't remember under what circumstances though!
 
If you really want to carry one - get a tool bag/roll and keep it in the boot with the spare wheel. nobody would argue about that.

Grown men shouldn't carry baseball bats in their car unless they are carrying their baseball kit :)
 
I've always been under the impression that it should be out of easy access for the driver - e.g. not in the cabin, so if you kept it in the boot it wouldn't be an issue.

Of course my only real source for this is from programs like Police Interceptors etc. ;)

  • Latex Gloves
  • Coveralls
  • Biodegradable Black Bin Bags
  • Plastic Wrap
  • Duct Tape
  • Hunting Knives
  • Electric Saw

in the boot and never had any issues...

Keep mine in my armrest. It's a legal blade though. Last one wasn't legal, but it was a proper Victorinox Hercules that i'd picked up in Switzerland, had it for years and came in really handy as an IT Tech when on-site. Left it overnight on a job that I was going back to first thing and it was gone. They bought me a cheapo one to replace it :(

Think the officer asked him why he had it and he replied with "For protection". The charge was carrying a weapon with the intent to use it i believe :eek:
 
I wear a Gerber Suspension on my belt when on duty and when driving to and from work but don't really see a need to keep a multi tool in the car at any other time to be honest.
 
I've got one of those "window smashers" if you need to break yourself out of your car. It could bludgeon someone pretty badly. It is attached by velcro to my door bin. I guess it depends on the circumstance that the multi tool is found. If it's folded and in it's sheath/holder then it's unlikely that you'd get any trouble for it?
