Just about to pay off my contract early I think.... would like to keep my number... so whats the sequence to do it ?

Im with orange at the mo ... think Im going to Tmobile .....

I need to pay off my contract early... so what do I do in which order ?

so I can order the phone online with Tmobile then when it arrives then phone them up to transfer number..... and this before the orange contract runs out or before ?
