So i have what seems like mounting problems on my HTPC so i am going to try to roll back to start of the year

the only thing of worth i will loose is my fallout NV game saves (170hrs worth)

what i want to do is be sure i have these on a USB stick that i can just put back after the roll back

is this something that i can do?
ie the game saves are single files that can just be placed in a saves folder ?
im guessing i can!

the game will still be installed on this roll back but i will obviously loose 100 or so hours of play!

If it's anything like Oblivion/Skyrim (which it should be) then your saves will be in Documents/My Games.

If it's a system restore you're doing then it won't touch your files, but still worth backing up 170hrs!

no its a full os image recover
basically my server takes a daily copy of each PCs OS image so if something goes wrong its a 10 minute job to recover from any month in the last 2 years

pc is failing to come out of standby, media centre is borked somehow

ill have a look. thats what i hoped!

i dont know if steam saves those to cloud or not

Not sure, check how much space it's using on the cloud save or whatever it's called (properties on the game). That should tell you.

If in doubt you could use GameSaveManager, that'll find it and back it up for you.

looks like its a manual jobby for me
weird.. every time i play it updates the cloud

Does it not sync with Steam cloud?

It doesn't sadly. I had a 100 hour play through and uninstalled the game because I had used too many mods that were colliding with each other as I wasn't using Fallout Mod Manager at the time. I thought when I installed I could just continue on playing but it turns out it doesn't save to the cloud.

That's annoying :/ I have noticed that not every game supports cloud, which is stupid tbh.
