I've got my current o2 phone which I want to cancel because i've found a better deal on a website which suits my needs.

That phone is on o2 also and when I went to the o2 shop they wouldn't match the deal because it was online.

Is there anyway I can transfer my current number from my existing o2 contract to another without having to any intermediate steps?

Thanks

I don't think so. To keep your current number you will need your PUC but you will only get that when changing networks.

Yes you can, I was practically in the same situation.

I was going from a 02 to 02 contract and wanted to keep my number but change the name the contract was under. This meant getting a new contract!

Wanted to change the name of my contract because when I first took my contract out I was under 18 so it went under my dad names, and well, now i'm over 18 and wanted it in my name.

I phoned o2 and explained my situation and was given a PAC code. Went into phones4u and took out a new contract after the sales person phoned o2 and another phones4u shop to confirm I could go from o2 to o2 with a PAC code, and I could. Got the contract and was given a temporary number and I got a text from o2 yesterday (to the number i'm transfering) saying my number would be transfered on the 10th, so all is good.

Ask o2 for your PAC code, setup your new contract online and it will ask you if you want keep your existing number, click yes and enter the PAC code, once the transaction completes, your current o2 contract will expire.

I managed to transfer from 3 payg to 3 contact recently. I didn't expect them to be able to do it but they did. I think companies now allow these transfers

This has always seemed daft to me. You can only keep your number if you change to another network. Why?

As mentioned above this isn't the case with O2 anymore. I moved my missus' account a few weeks ago from O2 to another O2 account using the PAC code with no issues.

Not sure if other networks are offering the same now (although it seems from above at least 3 do it), but there are ways around it by transferring your number to a PAYG sim if they haven't followed O2/3's lead.

I just ported from 02 contact (billing through Carphonewharehouse not that it makes a difference i think) to o2 contact
