Kenyon leaves Chelsea

I'd say both. So much for being a lifelong Man Utd fan, as soon as Abramovich opened his cheque book he was gone, no loyalty and it's believed that he scuppered a few transfer targets that Utd had their eyes on, somehow they instantly became Chelsea targets, Essien and Robben. And that's before you even think about how he messed up the Ronaldinho transfer that looked almost certain. The guy is a creep and a slimeball.

This.

The guy is a ****.

I seriously think after he's had his "holiday" he'll join Notts or Manchester City. He just follows the money.

What a pity that his plans for Chelsea being the biggest team in the world and breaking even are now going down the drain. ;)

Very true, all part of his masterplan then. :p

He'll be at City next giving them some of Chelsea's transfer targets and laughing that his actions have given Chelsea a ban from transfers. :D

... as soon as Abramovich opened his cheque book he was gone, ...

I don't see any problem with that.

Regardless of where your loyalties lie, if you see an opportunity to further your career elsewhere, it is upto your current employer to better their current pay offer, otherwise you leave. Obviously, you must be good at your current job, if you are being offered more money elsewhere.

Or are some people on this forum suggesting that they personally, would refuse to take a pay rise, if another employer offered them the same job, for more money?

Or is it one rule for themselves and another rule for Kenyon?

I think it's a bit different in sport, and especially if you profess to be a lifelong fan of the club you work for and then bugger off for money elsewhere - in the "real world" moving for money is entirely justifiable in a lot of cases. In sport, it can leave a bitter taste in the mouth due to the emotions involved. Don't forget, he wouldn't have been on poor money at Man Utd either...

There is nothing to stop someone from being a huge fan/supporter of their place of employment, however, personal cirucmstances may dictate that you do what is right for you AND your family. This may mean taking a job you don't like or moving to a new employer who you don't like as much as you current employer. However, we all have to make professional sacrifices that maybe dictated by personal circumstances.

Had Kenyon moved to Chelsea for exactly the same money he was being paid at Man Utd, we could be justified in calling him all sorts of names, however, if a wage increase was involved, I honestly cant see how anybody can hold it against him.

At some point, it mightve been the case where a if a footballer were a lifelong fan of his club, that he wouldnt play for anyone else. But I think after Matt Le Tissier, those times ended. Since then, we have seen Ashley Cole, M.Owen, D.Beckham, Rooney, etc move to clubs that are in direct competition with the clubs these men supported as youngsters. These days, there is nothing wrong with that.

Ok Sunama maybe you'd like to backup how he wanted to further his career at Chelsea by leaving Man Utd when during his time the club won 5 Premier League titles, 1 FA Cup and the Champions League to a club at that time had not won anything for four years and that was the FA Cup in 2000? I'll give you a little hint ££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££

I'm not disputing that his moves are intiated primarily by money.

What I'm saying is that in this day and age, you can't hold that against the man. If someone offered you to join another/rival company, with a 50% higher salary, for doing the same thing, would you stay or go?

The man has wife, kids, family, mortgage etc. He has responsibilities and to this end, he has to consider this in his decision.

As an example, when I was a student, I used to work at Sainsbury's. It was hard work, but the people who I used to work with (who were also students) and the lack of responsibility (no mortgage, living with parents, etc) meant that that was probably the most enjoyable part of my life. However, as I grew older, I got a full time job, got a house, got more responsibilities. Even though I prefer my previous life, I was forced into the new job due to my responsibilities.

Similarly, no matter how much Kenyon liked Man Utd, the man has other factors to consider. A.Cole's move to Chelsea was similarly justifiable.
