I'm on a diet designed to encourage ketogenesis. It's similar to an Atkins diet and many other low carb diets.

So far it's only day 3 and so far it's been very, very easy.

Broadly the foods I cannot eat are potatoes (and other starchy veg), grains (including corn), sugar, pasta, bread, rice.

That does sound quite restrictive, but to bulk up meals there's plenty of veg I can choose from - broccoli, sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower for example.

So far I've been eating various types of meat and fish and I've really enjoyed everything up to now. I've disregarded cost since I'd rather pay a fortune for my food while I'm on this than allow it to fail.

However I'm becoming a little concerned that I'm going to get bored.

I've got a few things up my sleeves. There's plenty of sauces I can make, I can eat some cheese. I've avoided burgers (the meat). So I'm keeping those in reseve so I can switch on to them should I become bored.

However I'm wondering if anyone has been on a similar diet and came across something different that makes for a change. I'm thinking the more different things I have in reseve the more chance I have of making it through the tough times when they arrive.

i basically ate for 2 weeks, eggs, bacon, sausage, steak.

near the end of week 2 i started to get a bit tired of all the bacon but i lost a stone in the 2 weeks.

i got them birdseye veg packs to re introduce carbs, 1 pack a day for a week then 2 packs a day etc

eventually got back in to carbs slowly and didnt put the weight back on.

Yep - was there anything you were eating other than just the normal, meat and eggs?

I'm really just trying to see if there's anything I haven't thought of, or that isn't commonly mentioned that I can eat.

So far I've been thinking for snacks I should get pepperami (I'll need to check the label first) and some jerky.

My advice would be vary what you eat as often as possible. I did it for 2 weeks and got bored of all the lettuce and bacon.

Yeah! :)

That's my worry... I'm trying to stick to just a few things for now, so that I do have something in reserve to vary it with.

Low carb diets are by far the quickest way to loss weight,i lost 3.8 stone in 3 months on the Atkins diet.

If you stick to a low carb diet you will lose lots of weight that is guaranteed.

Ignore the people who slate low carb diets they work great ,half of the doubters havent even tried the Atkins or low carb diets in the first place.

My advice is to simply try not to have the same food menus all the time and to do lots of research online and maybe buy a few low carb diet books, there are loads of menus you can make if you have a little search on the net, your be surprised

I used to buy a few things from here:

low carb isn't magic pill though, its hard to stick to but works really well.

Its all about body comp anyway, doesn't matter how much weight is loss its the body fat loss that counts.

a good point for 'overweight' or slightly higher bf people is exercising isn't as highly required and fast pace walking for 30 mins will do and still enable you to sufficiently lose body fat.

good luck, and as above dont listen to people who slate it - making stupid claims that they dont work etc, they aren't aware of the benefits that low-carb brings (increased insulin sensitivity is one).

good luck.

Make sure you eat plenty of green veg to stop yourself getting gutrot and bad breath.

Spinach is my favourite. Versatile, tasty and gives you popeye powers! Not much in the way of sugar, so you can eat piles of it without it knocking you out of ketosis.

Atkins diet is hard, low carb is easy.

I did my one DIY version and lost 3 stone. I just cut out junk food and bread.

Not totally mind, I have a sandwich now and again, chocolate once a week but breakfast is fruit, lunch is salad, dinner is anything goes but no bread.

But the calories in/out balance is th key. Atkins work because protein is a hunger suppressant, try eating 2 pounds of cheese every day and see if you would still lose weight!

Lol ^^

Best is low carb and low fat, pfffff then see the weight melt.

Also its mainly the fat that is the hunger suppresant.

I eat loads and i mean loads of cheese on the Atkins diet and lost loads of weight!,the more fat you eat the better on the Atkins.

Most hard cheese have hardly any Carbohydrates which is good for low carb and the Atkins.

I found cheese great for snacking.

I'm sure you think you did but your calorie count would be lower than normal.

Take a normal meal for example, a lot of people like to have some bread to go with it, be it pasta or a roast. Even a Sunday roast, 2 slice of that, add butter and you are looking at like 250 cal.

No bread, stop that and instantly you are eating 250 cal less for that meal and I doubt you will notice, or be hungry afterwards as you still have your rest of the food.

That's just one aspect of lower your calorie intake without even noticing it.

That's my version on it. And i still stand by calorie in/out balance is the key. You don't crap it out, the only way to get rid of the fat is burn it. So if you are eating enough to sustain the burning then your body won't use what's in store.
