I have a simple question from those who have been on a Ketosis diet. Am I allowed any of the following -

Dark Chocolate
Skimmed Milk
Orange Juice

Thanks ;)

No to all unless using them as part of a carb up, even then there a much better choices

Ketosis is effectively very low/zero carbs?

I too am currently keeping carbs to a minimum. Though I can't not use milk in scrambled eggs. This for me is the only time I'll use milk during the day.

Dont go to Atkins low carb levels, its just not sustainable in the long term, try Low GI, its the much better option.

Low GI carbs is a must at all times not just from time to time for carbs IMO. Low carb and low GI is even better, I have a max of 200g of carbs per day. Though I do load more over the weekend, but I do try and minimise my carbs as best I can. It's a very good way of living. :)

Yeah the aim should be for good clean carbs, the problem with Atkins level is that 20g of carbs is great for weight loss, but if you also want to get fit and make good gains , it can be a bit hindering. And you o tend to gorge more on your days off as the restrictions on carbs are too much, whereas with Low GI, its not a disaster if you do have that slice of pizza, plus you dont get the craving as much anyway.

I did the keto diet many years ago, and stuck to it for 2 years, but I dont think it made me fit or have a better body, I just had a nice reading at the scale.Since then I put all my weight back on, but since starting Low GI and concentrating on weights, Im losing weight/BF as quick as before, but at the same time gaining a better stronger physic (sp:p).

Thats some very interesting feedback guys cheers :)

Low carbs maybe a better option. I want to lose weight, however I am lifting so some muscle gains would be a nice bonus.

Living without the odd drop of milk in my cuppa would be hard to do !! :D

I think Ketosis begins to happen after around 3 days at below 50grams of carbs. So zero isn't necesarily essential, easy or maintainable.

Think the max carbs on atkins is 20g per day.

Person to person, your body can enter Ketosis with upto 100grams of carbs though usually 40-60 seems to be the average.

A technique often used is to cut down to 20grams per day and then add 5 more grams every few days until weight loss stops. Though this would be hard to judge.

Do you low carb lads include coconut oil in your diets? I've been a low carber myself for years and have found coconut oil gives me great energy due to its high MCT content,i've found it's perfect before a workout or a run giving me almost instant energy.

It also has very potent immune boosting properties due to the high lauric acid content, one of natures perfect foods imo and perfect for people who are excercising reguarly but prefer a low carb diet.
