Ok got a few problems here.

I had a beta trial of Windows 7 but it expired and it shuts down every 2 hours. I have a serial code for Windows 7 Professional from MSND university thing so I went to install the cd but used a windows 7 Home Premium (girlfriends). I realised my error and thought well I'll just pop in the Win 7 Pro disk and install that but it comes up with an error. You need to boot up from this DVD to install.

The disk is and I boot up press f12 the select the first boot device and I get the screen. Lovely, however then my keyboard doesn't work it won't let me select DVD drive as the boot device. Really annoying.

Is there a way I can set the boot device to be the DVD drive from the desktop or is there a way to make the keyboard work. I tried my old keyboard but that didn't work either. They're both USB

any help appreciated thanks

Is it a wireless keyboard?

If so you will need a PS2 keyboard to enable something in the bios, USB legacy or something to allow you to use your keyboard on boot.

You could try it in a different USB port, I know on some of the PCs I have it doesn't work in most of the ports but will in 2 of the rear ones at POST letting you into the BIOS. In any of the other ports you have to wait until Windows has booted.

It's a USB keyboard and I don't have a ps2 one. Is this the only way to do it? I was hoping I could edit the bios from windows. I've a gigabyte motherboard.

Your USB keyboard will work in bios.

On the boot screen just hit the Delete button and then go to either Intergrated or Advanced and enable Legacy USB...

Gigabyte have a problem with certain bios/motherboards as they do not include the bios deviceid code to enable USB keyboards. Its a real mess as gigabyte do not want to acknowledge or fix it they say its because they cannot support all the different USB keyboard device ids which is total BS but many USB keyboards do not work until you load windows :(

It's 50/50.

On my UD3P (v1.1) Sometimes at cold boot the wireless dinovo won't be usable until Windows login screen appears. Other times it works fine in the BIOS. Just restart a few times OR log into Windows, wait a minute then restart and enter BIOS.

If you can't login to Windows then boot up using the Windows setup disc and allow the mouse/kb to init and get to the setup screens then exit and restart.

In my BIOS, I have an option to enable "legacy USB support". if I enable this, I can use my USB keyboard during boot up. If it is disabled, the keyboard does not work until Windows or Linux loads.

Perhaps you might have such an option?
