Keyboard &mice or controllers?

For FPS keyboard and mouse.. its pretty simple really.. its much more accurate and faster also..

Errr not entirely accurate tbh. Something like RB6:Vegas is actually easier to control using the controller yet easier to aim with the mouse. This is also what I have found with a lot of the cross platform games.

I Believe there is a write up somewhere on the net about RB6:Vegas whereby they had the teams playing against eachother some with controllers and others with mice and keyboards and there was no clear winner.

However overall it depends heavily on personal preference. I for example have found that with practice I can now aim better with a controller than I can with a keyboard and mouse simply due to the amount of time I have spent on the controller.

Others will find the opposite and some will simply say a KB and mouse is better when in truth they don't actually have a clue.

I could not disagree more...

Every FPS game would be better on a mouse and keyboard..what you are saying is that because a particular game has been mapped out to play on a controller well, thats the best option for the game.. absolute rubbish. I'm sorry but FPS games play far better on PC's with a keyboard and mouse.. no matter how well the console controller is mapped.

We will soon see when crossplatform games are released and xbox and playstation players will refuse to play on servers that allow PC users access.. believe me that will happen. There is no way a players using a controller could live with a player thats using a mouse and keyboard.

You are missing the " in my opinion" from your post.

You're talking nonsense, it wasn't 'mapped' out, it was CODED for a control pad. Massive difference.

Wrong. Halo and Call of Duty 2 are 2 games which I felt played better on control pad. And just so you know, I also purchased them on PC. So I do have a fair comparison. (and yes, they really were purchased).

Better and easier are 2 different things.

..

tbh, I actually preferred playing COD2 on my 360 with a controller rather than on my PC with a kb/m. Gears wouldn't be as much fun either imo.

And can you imagine Goldeneye with a kb/m? Geesh...

The best player in the world with a controller would not beat me one any game if I had a mouse and Keyboard.. thats not being big headed, just stating facts.

That doesn't make it a better control method, just an easier one.

I like the challenge that aiming with an analogue stick offers. It's slower, more tense, more realisitic and convincing. Having to actually stop and take careful aim can add tremendously to the experience in certain games, which is why getting a headshot in a title like Golden Eye is far more satisfying than in, say, CS. Add to this the obvious immersive advantages analogue movement offers over keyboard control, trigger buttons and rumble, and you'll see why many prefer a pad for single player, story driven shooters. The experience can be that much more visceral. Sure, some games need a mouse and keyboard. Having playing in clans at a decent level for years I realise full well that many fps wouldn't work with a pad (you only have to have played Q3 on the DC to understand)

For games that focus on twitch aiming and lightning fast reactions the mouse will always be king. For everything else, i'll take a joypad.

At the risk of being labelled heretic, classic games like Thief and System Shock would be so much better with a joypad if it was implemented correctly. I'm choosing to pick up Bioshock for the 360 and cant wait for HL2 to arrive on the same console. These games are slow - a pad is easily capable - and get no benefit from mouse control. The real issue here is some people's inability to use a pad ;) For the none thumb challenged it's possible to be deadly accurate - it just takes a little practise. Put that in your pipe :)

I have to admit i love the controller. The lack of pixel perfect precision aiming you get from a kb/m setup adds to the action/intensity/realism of the game.
And has been said, kb/m don't work so good from the sofa or in bed. :D

In my opinion as a prolonged CSS player i think that its better to play using a keyboared and mouse on a pc but FPS on a games console like the xbox 360 i prefer to but thats just my personal preferance. ;)
