Keyboard/Mouse Adapter for 360 ?

Brining up an old topic but there's a new product called xim360 which looks impressive and is much better than the previous, from what users are saying

but still the £120 price tag

I'm interested in getting 1 to play gow2 and get the advantage over everyone, host advantage is annoying maybe it'll level the playing field slightly

Anyone have any experience in them now seen as this thread was a few months old some interesting youtube reviews that look like it works perfectly!

I imagine it'll be crap like all these keyboard and mouse adapters are.

My comment from January still stands :p

Why would you want to buy a keyboard and mouse adapter?

1) They are ****
2) Gears of War 2 is ****

Simple really, if you want to play with a keyboard and mouse get a PC. Cost is no longer an argument as you can get PC's more powerful than the 360 for way under 300 quid nowadays.

For that £120 you are halfway from getting a pretty beefy PC with all the mouse and keyboard support you will ever need.

I can just imagine some of the people here turning up to the London marathon and saying "I don't see why they won't allow us to use bicycles, I'd be able to complete the course much quicker that way"

Xbox 360 games are designed with the 360 game pad in mind. If your not able to play well using it, thats because you either not good enough or not taking the time to learn. I'm fairly certain no one here pwned the first few times they used KB/M on the PC so why would it be any different on a console using the gamepad.

I have a nice computer don't really play it, I like my friends i know on xbox just want a m&kb for it.

Its not just for gow2 thats just the game I'm playing currently.

Yes but I doubt it's the only game he would like to use keyboard/mouse on.

That was a general post to people thinking of getting these crappy adapters too.

the "crappy adapters" comment is from experience of the xim360? or just from reviews of other adapter's.

Don't really mind if people think its cheating just looking for advice

I'm sure the original poster must be pretty good with his controller by now. Just to say I'm pretty damn good with a controller myself just looking to get the edge over everyone :)

Then achieve the edge by practising more, not by being a filthy cheater.

yes yes cheating :)

but. equipment is a edge its like buying a new mouse with higher dpi, a better graphics card for higher fps or a faster connection all of this is an edge.

not saying i don't agree, i do have a point (in a odd way)

That stuff doesn't really exist on console though, the level playing field is one of the best things about console gaming. Either accept that you aren't the best or practice more.

But the 360 only legitimately supports one input device, whereas the PC supports all of those peripherals. The designers of the 360 deliberately made it so that all people online would be using the same sort of input method in order to keep a level playing field. These adapters are simply trying to bypass the design feature that was deliberately chosen.

Surely by your argument taking drugs when competing in the olympics is ok too? It's not allowed by the organisers but it gives you an edge and everyone else can buy them anyway. Or, a less overblown comparison would be OGC from the old school CS days, is it ok to use that too? It gives you an edge and is available to everyone.

Krono in good analogy shocker

SFIV wasn't :p

does using a stick in street fighter cheating or a wheel in racing games

If the peripheral falls within the limitations and guidelines of the xbox 360 protocol as the XIM360 does I would consider it using what's available to advance my skills.

What's taking it too far though?

You can solder to the 360 pad and connect it to a PIC or a PC via a serial port and program in the perfect ultimate combo for a fighting game to be performed when you press a button. Is that cheating? Is it still cheating if a third party made a device that did it for you (macro's)?

its true it is near the line of cheating but your still using your skills to control it auto fire and that I would say is cheating and that is a banable offense on live.

I know why people do think its cheating but i would only consider it an advantage or a edge, because you still have to stay within the boundaries of the game you can't do anything more than a person with a controller can if he/she was brilliant with it, I would consider myself more able with a mouse & kb than a controller.

Both stick and wheel are not far better than a pad, a mouse and keyboard is. Having looked at forza 2 recently i found the majority of the top spots for time trials were held by pad users, not wheel users and with a stick loads of people went out and bought them at the release of SFIV, realized they couldn't use them and sold them. But either way, it's a moot point as the games were designed for use with the peripherals, what the designer says goes essentially so the fact you're bypassing what the developers wanted when you use a mouse and kb on the 360 is what makes it cheating in my eyes. It was never intended.
