Keyboard & mouse random disconnects

Over the past few weeks or so I've been experiencing random disconnects with the keyboard & mouse. If I then plug another device (memory stick) into the same USB socket (USB 2.0), that works fine. Plugging the K&M into the front (case) sockets and they work again. Rebooting windows will also bring the K&M back again (in original mobo i/o panel sockets). Starting to wonder if this is a hardware issue, namely either the PSU or motherboard randomly dropping the power output to the i/o panel USB sockets?.

Gigabyte Z77 d3h
Logitech K310 keyboard
Logitech MX518 mouse
Windows 10 (up to date)

thanks

Try right clicking start, in the search field type 'power options'. Then click 'additional power settings', 'change plan settings' on your selected power profile, 'change advanced power settings', find 'USB settings' and turn off 'USB selective suspend'. See if that helps. If not I reckon you're right, it's a hardware issue with the motherboard

Don't want to jinx it but I had a similar issue that went away after I did the above, but it came back with a vengeance a few days later...

Was it the board or PSU?. Just hoping if it is hardware, in my case its the PSU. Can't really afford to change mobo/cpu/memory right now so I'd have to leave them plugged in the front as a workaround.

What's the model of PSU?
USBs are powered by 5V, which really shouldn't be the one to fail out of normal rails.
But when PC is powered down and still getting power they can be powered by 5V standby.
Which might not even have proper voltage protections in cheapest PSUs.

Happened again this morning. Plugged an external 2.5" USB powered 4TB HDD into same socket and that works fine. Thinking that should put to bed the theory the board stops supplying enough power to that socket(?). Anyway, trying another of my older Logitech mice and see how that goes.

I'm having the same problem, but on an X99 setup. I suspect it's the xinput driver supplied by MS. Do you use an XbOne pad?

Also as a secondary problem my mouse will randomly stutter and cause the speakers to beep, un/replugging sometimes fixes it but a reboot is often needed. Gets stuck in a graceful shutdown and a hard power off is needed. :(

Just an update on this for the curious. Been running my older MX500 for the past three weeks without issue. To be sure, I plugged the MX518 back in and it locked up within 10mins. Looks like I'll be waiting for Logitech to (hopefully) release the MX518 Legendary over here (don't really want to go the import route). Tried a few others but they just don't feel right.

I'd consult Event Viewer for when that sort of things happens. USB ports can shutdown and come with something like a "timeout occurred while waiting for the EHCI host controller Interrupt on Async Advance Doorbell response" error.

You'll only see the error message when checking Event Viewer.
