keyboard not working

so I just took my laptop apart and when i came to putting the keyboard cable back in, in wouldn't go all the way in (i'm presuming it needs to go further, there is a faint black line and it doesn't reach that) and i can't close the little latch thing properly, however it closes fine when the cable isn't in.

Now the strange thing is, it shows up in device manager and it says it is working correctly...what should i do!?!?

Try and sort it out so that it sits properly in the case again will probably help a lot.

Take it back apart and put it back together CAREFULLY so that all slots back into
place and it will probably work after that.

still not working, in device manager, under keyboards there is two: HID keyboard device and ps/2 compatible device, i turned the computer on with no keyboard plugged in and hid keyboard was gone, plugged it in and it was back.

i think this has got something to do with not being able to close the lock thing properly, is it worth getting a new keyboard? i don't want to spend money on something that isn't going to work

Stick a small screwdriver under the keyboard header latch to hold the latch up while you push the flat cable back in all the way then with the same screwdriver push the latch down and do make sure the cable is in the right way in the first place.
